Research on 1-azabicyclic compounds

1-(2-Furyl)-3-amino-4,4-dimethylpentane was used to obtain 3-tert-butyl-1,2-dihydropyrrolizine, the catalytic hydrogenation of which over Rh/Al₂O₃ at room temperature gives a mixture of cis- and trans-3,8-H-3-ter-butylpyrrolizidines with predominance of the cis isomer, whereas hydrogenation at 90–100 °C gives a mixture containing the trans isomer as the principal component. The three-dimensional structures of the isomers follow from data on the catalytic hydrogenation and isomerization and the IR, Raman, and PME spectra. A considerable percentage of the trans-fused form is characteristic for cis-3,8-H-3-tert-butylpyrrolizidine.     

Reaction of platinum complexes with (+)-α-pinene and (+)-limonene. Synthesis, molecular structure, and catalytic activity of dichloro(η4-[p-mentha-1,8{9}-diene])platinum(II)

The transformations of platinum(II) and platinum(IV) complexes with inner-and outer-sphere ligands by the action of (+)-α-pinene and (+)-limonene were studied. Reduction of the metal complex is the main process whose rate increases in the following outer-sphere ligand series: (Me₂SO)₂H⁺ < Et₃NH⁺ < K^? < H⁺. The reaction of K₂PtCl₄ with α-pinene gave cis-terpine monohydrate and dichloro-η⁴-[p-mentha-1,8(9)-diene]platinum(II), and their structure was proved by X-ray analysis. The complex belongs to monoclinic crystal system, the Pt-Cl and Pt-C bonds therein have different lengths, the ClPtCl angle is 85.88°, and the C=C bond plane is orthogonal to the square coordination core. Dichloro-η⁴-[p-mentha-1,8(9)-diene]-platinum(II) was tested as catalyst in the hydrosilylation of acetophenone with diphenylsilane.     

Transfer Reactions of Rydberg (Quasi-Rydberg Molecular) Electrons in Condensed Media: IV. Large Proton Displacements upon Phosphorescence Quenching via Highly Excited Triplet States T* of Substituted Aromatic Solute Molecules in Solutions at 77 K

Intramolecular phosphorescence quenching via states T* in aromatic solute molecules containing N–H (diphenylamine (DPA) or carbazole), O–H (naphthol), etc. bonds was observed in methylcyclohexane at 77 K. The quantum yield of quenching measured for DPA increases with increasing the energy of the T* state. As in the case of external electron acceptors, the quenching and photodissociation are associated with the capture of excited * electrons onto polarized bonds N–H⁺, O–H⁺and with the formation of triplet complexes (for example, Ph₂N···H*, where H* is the excited hydrogen atom). The complexes can be deactivated via configurations with large proton displacement distances (Ph₂N^–···H⁺).     

An example of a zero series expansion in the Walsh system

We construct an example of a zero series expansion in the Walsh system which converges to zero outside some closed M set of zero measure and converges to + at each point of this set. This shows, in particular, that in the theorem which says that a Walsh series which converges everywhere to a finite symmetric function is a Fourier series it is impossible to omit the requirement of finiteness and allow convergence of the series on a set of zero measure to an infinity of specified sign.Translated from Matematicheskie Zametki, Vol. 19, No. 2, pp. 179–186, February, 1976.     

Investigation of charged-hadron production in proton–nucleus interactions at the energy of 50 GeV

Cross sections for the production of high-transverse-momentum charged hadrons in proton–nucleus interactions at the incident-proton energy of 50 GeV were measured with the aid of the FODS double-arm spectrometer. Single hadrons (charged pions and protons) emitted at a c.m. angle of about 90° and high-effective-mass pairs of hadrons flying apart at a c.m. angle of 180° were detected simultaneously. Results on the production of single hadrons are presented.

Crossovers between superconducting symmetry classes

We study the average density of states in a small metallic grain coupled to two superconductors with the phase difference π, in a magnetic field. The spectrum of the low-energy excitations in the grain is described by the random matrix theory whose symmetry depends on the magnetic field strength and coupling to the superconductors. In the limiting cases, a pure superconducting symmetry class is realized. For intermediate magnetic fields or couplings to the superconductors, the system experiences a crossover between different symmetry classes. With the help of the supersymmetric σ-model we derive the exact expressions for the average density of states in the crossovers between the symmetry classes A-C and CI-C.
