Cascade cyclizations and couplings involving nickel enolates

A new strategy for effecting cascade cyclization processes using nickel enolates has been developed. Nickel enolates may be cleanly generated by the oxidative cyclization of an enal and alkyne with Ni(0), and the resulting enolate may be functionalized by a variety of alkylation processes. Partially and fully intramolecular versions of the process allow the rapid synthesis of complex polycyclics from simple achiral, acyclic precursors.     

Mechanisms of Non-Newtonian Polymer Flow Through Porous Media Using Navier–Stokes Approach

This study includes solving non-Newtonian Navier–Stokes equation in three-dimensions (real rock images) and two-dimensions (simplified pore geometries) using the finite-difference method. The purpose of this study is to improve understanding of local phenomena leading to the mobilization of residual oil. This involves local pressure variations for non-Newtonian polymers and compares it with Newtonian fluid behavior. When a higher degree of shear thickening is induced, more flow diversion to side channels perpendicular to the main flow path and larger drag on fluids inside side channels will occur. This is consistent with oil mobilization and lowering of residual oil saturation.     

Semileptonic (Λ b → Λcev) decay in a field theoretic quark model

The semileptonic decay width of heavy baryons such as (Λ _b → Λcev) has been estimated in the framework of a nonrelativistic field theoretic quark model where four component quark field operators along with a harmonic oscillator wave function are used to describe translationally invariant hadronic states. The present estimation does not make an explicit use of heavy quark symmetry and has a reasonable agreement with the experimentally measured decay width, polarisation ratio and form factors with the harmonic oscillator radii and quark momentum distribution inside the hadron as free parameters.
