Changes in Structural and Optical Properties of Polycarbonate Induced by Ag+ Ion Implantation

Transparent polycarbonate samples were implanted with 1 MeV Ag⁺ ions to various doses ranging from 5 × 10¹⁴ to 3 × 10¹⁶ ions cm^?2 with a beam current density of 900 nA cm^?2. Modification in the structure of polycarbonate as a function of the implantation fluence was investigated using micro-Raman spectroscopy, glancing angle X-ray diffraction, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy pointed toward the formation of graphite structures/clusters due to the ion implantation. UV-Vis absorption analysis suggests the formation of a carbonaceous layer and a drastic decrease in optical band gap from 4.12 eV to 0.50 eV at an implanted dose of 3 × 10¹⁶ ions cm^?2. The correlation between the decrease in band gap and the structural changes is discussed.     

Engineering Porous Organic Cage Crystals with Increased Acid Gas Resistance

Both known and new CC3‐based porous organic cages are prepared and exposed to acidic SO₂ in vapor and liquid conditions. Distinct differences in the stability of the CC3 cages exist depending on the chirality of the diamine linkers used. The acid catalyzed CC3 degradation mechanism is probed via in situ IR and a degradation pathway is proposed and supported with computational results. CC3 crystals synthesized with racemic mixtures of diaminocyclohexane exhibited enhanced stability compared to CC3‐R and CC3‐S. Confocal fluorescent microscope images reveal that the stability difference in CC3 species originates from an abundance of mesoporous grain boundaries in CC3‐R and CC3‐S, allowing facile access of aqueous SO₂ throughout the crystal, promoting decomposition. These grain boundaries are absent from CC3 crystals made with racemic linkers.

Quinine as an organocatalytic dual activator for the diastereoselective synthesis of spiro-epoxyoxindoles

A highly efficient organocatalytic approach has been developed for the diastereoselective epoxidation of (E)-3-ylidene-indolin-2-one derivatives using readily available natural product quinine and urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) in DCM at 10 °C to afford trans spiro-epoxyoxindoles which were further utilized to obtain β-hydroxy-α-amino esters by water mediated regioselective ring opening from the less hindered end with aniline derivatives, under sonication.     

Synthesis of Spiroannulated Dihydrofurans by Cerium(IV) Ammonium Nitrate Mediated Addition Of 1,3-Dicarbonyl Compounds to Exocyclic Alkenes

Cerium (IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) mediated addition of 1, 3-dicarbonyl compounds to exocyclic alkenes occurs smoothly at 5°C in methanol to afford spiroannulated dihydrofurans in moderate to good yields.     

Spectral characteristics of desipramine in β-cyclodextrin cavity through inclusion complex

The inclusion complexation behavior and its characterization of Desipramine (DP) with β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD) in solution phase are analyzed by UV and fluorescence spectroscopy. The solid inclusion complex is characterized by FT-IR, SEM, Powder XRD and TG/DTA. The stoichiometric ratio of the complexation is found to be 1:1. The orientation and structure of the complex are proposed based on the analysis of Patch-Dock server. The formation of inclusion complex has been confirmed on the base of the changes of spectroscopic properties will be encapsulated in partly either by any aromatic ring or by the aliphatic side chain. But our results showed that the aliphatic group of DP is in the cavity of β-CD.β-CD encapsulation and enhances the in-vitro cytotoxicityeffect of DP compound by forming inclusion complex in the solid state.
