Photopyroelectric spectroscopy of Sb<Subscript>2</Subscript>O<Subscript>3</Subscript> - ZnO ceramics

Photopyroelectric spectroscopy is used to study the band-gap energy of the ceramic (ZnO + xSb₂O₃), x = 0.1 - 1.5 mol% and the ceramic (ZnO + 0.4 mol%  Bi₂O₃ + xSb₂O₃), x = 0 - 1.5 mol% sintered at isothermal temperature, 1280 °C, for 1 and 2 hours. The wavelength of incident light, modulated at 9 Hz, is kept in the visible range and the photopyroelectric spectrum with reference to doping level is discussed. The band-gap energy is reduced from 3.2 eV, for pure ZnO, to 2.86, 2.83 eV for the samples without Bi₂O₃at 0.1 mol% of Sb₂O₃ for 1 and 2 hours of sintering time, respectively. It is reduced to 2.83, 2.80 eV for the samples with Bi₂O₃ at 0 mol% of Sb₂O₃ for 1 and 2 hours of sintering time, respectively. The steepness factor σ_A which characterizes the slop of exponential optical absorption is discussed with reference to the doping level. The phase constitution is determined by XRD analysis; microstructure and compositional analysis of the selected areas are analyzed using SEM and EDX.     

On Zagier’s cusp form and the Ramanujan τ function

Zagier constructed a cusp form for each weightk of the full modular group. We use this construction to estimate Fourier coefficients of cusp forms. In particular, we get a non-trivial estimate, by elementary methods and indicate a relationship with the Lindelof hypothesis for classical Dirichlet L-functions. Studies on coordination chemistry of a nitrogen–sulfur donor ligand with lighter and heavier metal ions and biological activities of its complexes

Complexes of S-benzyldithiocarbazate (SBDTC) with lighter and heavier metals, viz., Cr^III, Fe^III, Sb^III, Zr^IV, Th^IV and U^VI have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, and spectral studies. The complexes: [Cr(SBDTCA)₃],^** [Fe(SBDTCA)₃], [Sb(SBDTCA)₃], [Sb(SBDTCA)₂Cl · H₂O], [Zr(O)(SBDTCA)₂ · H₂O], [Th(SBDTCA)(NO₃)₃ · H₂O)], and [U(O)₂(SBDTCA)₂] were all prepared in alkaline media. They were all hexa-coordinated with bidentate, uninegative chelation of the ligand. [Fe(SBDTCA)₃], [Sb(SBDTCA)₃] and [Sb(SBDTCA)₂Cl · H₂O] were strongly effective against bacteria giving clear inhibition zones with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus cereus. The compounds showed poor antifungal activity. The antimony complexes were strongly cytotoxic against leukemic cells with CD₅₀ values of 3.2–6.7 g cm^–3 as compared to the CD₅₀ value of 14.5 g cm^–3 of the free SbCl₃ molecule.     

Basis Problem for Turbulent Actions II: c0-Equalities

Let (Xⁿ,dⁿ) be a sequence of finite metric spaces of uniformlybounded diameter. An equivalence relation D on the product defined by if and only if is a c₀-equality.A systematic study is made of c₀-equalities and Borel reductionsbetween them. Necessary and sufficient conditions, expressedin terms of combinatorial properties of metrics d_n, are obtainedfor a c₀-equality to be effectively reducible to the isomorphismrelation of countable structures. It is proved that every Borelequivalence relation E reducible to a c₀-equality D either reducesa c₀-equality D' additively reducible to D, or is Borel-reducibleto the equality relation on countable sets of reals. An appropriatelydefined sequence of metrics provides a c₀-equality which isa turbulent orbit equivalence relation with no minimum turbulentequivalence relation reducible to it. This answers a questionof Hjorth. It is also shown that, whenever E is an F-equivalencerelation and D is a c₀-equality, every Borel equivalence relationreducible to both D and to E has to be essentially countable.2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 03E15.     

Electrochemical impedance study of lithium-ion insertion into rice husk carbon

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was employed to study electrochemical behaviors during Li-ion insertion into rice husk carbon. The impedance spectra consist of two depressed semicircles in the high and middle range frequency and an incline line at low frequency. The impedance spectra, obtained in the potential range 2.0 to 0.005 V were analyzed with an equivalent circuit model. Kinetic parameters such as the charge-transfer resistance and surface film resistance were evaluated and discussed. Thiolated poly(ε-caprolactone) macroligand with vacant coordination sites on gold substrate: Synthesis and surface characterization

Surface-confined telechelic poly(ε-caprolactone) macroligand with two distinct functional groups per polymeric chain has been synthesized and characterized. The molecular microstructure of the macroligand with regard to the properties of the end-capped functionalities and with those on surface substrate has been studied by solution and surface analytical methods (i.e., X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), grazing angle reflectance-Fourier transform IR spectroscopy (GA-FTIR), water contact angle measurements, and atomic force microscopy (AFM)) to elucidate the structure and properties of such multifunctional polymer on gold (1 1 1) substrate.
