Shock compression and thermodynamics of highly nonideal metallic plasma

Using experimental data on compression and heating of dense metallic plasma by powerful shock waves, we have analyzed the effect of strong Coulomb interaction on both discrete and continuum bands of energy spectrum, the role of short-range repulsion, and the effect of degeneracy on the equation of state for a dense, nonideal metallic plasma. Explosive devices have been used to produce plasma for which the degree of ionization, nonideal parameter, and degeneracy varied over wide ranges. In order to increase effects of irreversible energy dissipation, metal targets of low densities have been used. Thermodynamic measurements have been compared to theoretical models taking into account Coulomb interaction, short-range repulsion, and degeneracy of electrons. The plasma models have been shown to be applicable to the equilibrium properties of multiply ionized plasma in a wide region of the phase diagram characterized by extremely high parameters [T⩾10⁴ K, P⩾10 GPa, and ρ=(0.1–1)ρ ₀], which is beyond the traditional domain of plasma physics. Synthesis of N-substituted indoles by extractive alkylation

Shock compression of solid deuterium

Experimental data on the compression of solid deuterium at a pressure of ～60 GPa are presented. The data were obtained on a generator of powerful converging spherical shock waves. The results are compared with the data of shock experiments obtained on a Nova laser facility and an electrodynamic EPBF-Z plant.     

Deuterium state and the possibility for cold nuclear synthesis in solids

We calculate the deuteron potential and the probability for cold nuclear synthesis for deuterium in the TiD₂ compound and its alloys with 3d-period elements. In the band model of a deuteron gas in a solid we examine the influence of the diffusion currents on the reaction rate. We show that by itself being in the solid state the Coulomb barrier for nuclear reactions is lowered in comparison with the deuterium gas. However, in a solid a necessary condition is the presence of physical processes and fields which lead to a nonequilibrium state for the deuterium subsystem.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 10, pp. 20–30, October, 1993.     

Catalytic and adsorptive properties of a Cu-ZSM-5 catalyst synthesized by solid-phase method

A Cu-exchanged catalyst Cu-ZSM-5 has been obtainedvia an environmentally friendly solid-phase synthesis. Its catalytic activity and adosorptive properties are compared with those of a catalyst prepared by the ion exchange from solution. The properties of the catalysts were found to be similar.     

Application of the average T-matrix-atomic sphere approximation to the calculation of the electronic structure of transition metal alloys

Results are presented of a calculation of the electronic spectra of TiCo and Ni₃Mn alloys using the linear average T-matrix-atomic sphere approximation (AT-ASA) previously proposed by the authors. An estimate was made of the accuracy and efficiency of the method. Tautomerism and Stereodynamics of Indophenols,Amidines, and Their Derivatives and Analogs: XV.1 Cyclization of N-Benzylidene-N'-R-sulfonyl-o-phenylenediamines to Tetrahydroquinoxalines

Alkylation of N-benzylidene-N'-R-sulfonyl-o-phenylenediamines with phenacyl bromides is accompanied by diastereoselective cyclization to afford tetrahydroquinoxaline derivatives. No cyclization occurs in the alkylation of the same compounds with p-nitrobenzyl bromide or chloroacetamide derivatives because of reduced reactivity of the N-methylene protons.
