Synthesis of Unsubstituted and 4,4′-Substituted Oligobipyridines as Ligand Strands for Helicate Self-Assembly

A general strategy for the synthesis of oligobipyridine ligands 2 – 5 containing from two to five 2,2′-bipyridine subunits, for helical metal complexes is described (sec Scheme). Both the unsubstituted parent strands ( a series) as well as their derivatives bearing fester or amide functions in the 4,4′-positions of the bipyridine moieties ( b – d series) have been obtained.     

Geometric representation of substitutions of Pisot type

We prove that a substitutive dynamical system of Pisot type contains a factor which is isomorphic to a minimal rotation on a torus. If the substitution is unimodular and satisfies a certain combinatorial condition, we prove that the dynamical system is measurably conjugate to an exchange of domains in a self-similar compact subset of the Euclidean space.

     

TASS: The Toolkit for Accurate Scientific Software

The Toolkit for Accurate Scientific Software (TASS) is a suite of integrated tools for the formal verification of programs used in computational science, including numerically-intensive message-passing-based parallel programs. While TASS can verify a number of standard safety properties (such as absence of deadlocks and out-of-bound array indexing), its most powerful feature is the ability to establish that two programs are functionally equivalent. These properties are verified by performing an explicit state enumeration of a model of the program(s). In this model, symbolic expressions are used to represent the inputs and the values of variables. TASS uses novel techniques to simplify the symbolic representation of the state and to reduce the number of states explored and saved. The TASS front-end supports a large subset of C, including (multi-dimensional) arrays, structs, dynamically allocated data, pointers and pointer arithmetic, functions and recursion, and other commonly used language constructs. A number of experiments on small but realistic numerical programs show that TASS can scale to reasonably large configurations and process counts. On the Influence of Several Carriers on the Dispersion of Nickel Nickel supported catalysts (carrier: η-, ?-, α-Al₂O₃, TiO₂) were characterized by chemically determined degree of reduction, CO chemisorption, magnetic susceptibility measurements and FMR. The influence of interaction between carrier and active component in the unreduced state on the size and number of Ni crystallites is discussed.
