Multiple focus formation in a Mather gun device

Along with the normally produced pulses of dI/dt, x-ray, optical emission, neutrons and ions by a Mather type plasma focus gun, one more set of pulses were observed to be generated by a low energy device at Trombay, a few 100 ns after the first set of pulses, in majority of the discharges. In a small number of discharges even three or more sets of pulses were observed. Signals from pick-up probes placed in the run down region of the device suggest formation of more than one sheath which subsequently may form more than one focus which in turn is responsible for the second and subsequent sets of pulses.     

Axisymmetric shrink fit problems of the elastic cylinder of finite length

The general case of the axisymmetric shrink fit problems of a solid elastic cylinder whose ends are free from tractions is formulated in terms of the Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. This is accomplished by the use of Papkovich-Fadle eigenfunction and the calculus of residues. Indentation by three types of sleeve is considered; (i) Edge Sleeve, (ii) Symmetrical central Sleeve and, (iii) Two identical edge sleeves. For each case, numerical results of effective resistance and contact pressure are reported for various values of the Poisson's ratio, radius of the cylinder and the sleeve width.

Zusammenfassung Der allgemeingültige Fall achsensymmetrischer Schrumpf-Anpassungs probleme eines elastischen Festzylinders dessen Enden zugkraftfrei sind wird in der Form der zweiten Integral-gleichung von Fredholm ausgedrückt. Dies wird durch die Anwendung der Papkovich-Fadle Eigenfunktion und der Residuenrechung erreicht. Drei Arten von Manteleinkerbungen werden untersucht: (i) einseitige Endeinkerbung, (ii) symmetrische Zentraleinkerbung, (iii) zweiseitige Endeinkerbung. Für jeden Testfall werden die Zahlenergbnisse des effektiven Winderstandes und des Berührungsdruckes für verschieden Werter der Poisson Ratio, des Zylinderradius und der Mantelkerbweite berichtet.

Nucleophilic,Heterocyclic, Carbene-Catalyzed,Solvent-Free,One-Pot Synthesis of Polyhydroquinolines via Multicomponent Hantzsch Reaction: An Efficient and Ecofriendly Approach

A simple, efficient, and ecofriendly one-pot method has been reported for the synthesis of polyhydroquinolines in excellent yield using nucleophilic heterocyclic carbene as catalyst. The generalized approach is the Hantzsch four-component reaction of aromatic aldehyde, ethyl acetoacetate, cyclic 1,3-diketone, and ammonium acetate.     

Induction of Apoptosis by Ribosome Inactivating Proteins

Apoptotic cell death is a fundamental process in the development and physiological homeostasis of multicellular organisms. It is associated with control of cell numbers in tissues and organs during development, with cell turnover, and with response to infection. Molecules that trigger this process in continuously proliferating cancer cells can be used as chemotherapeutic agents. Ribosome inactivating proteins (RIPs) that inhibit translation in a cell by depurinating (N-glycosidase activity) the 28S rRNA are known to serve as apoptosis inducers. However, the role of depurination activity of the RIPs in apoptosis induction is still controversial. Presently, there are three different hypotheses which propose that depurination is: (1) essential, (2) essential but not the sole factor, or (3) not essential for apoptosis induction. This article reviews various experimental outcomes on the importance of N-glycosidase activity of RIPs in the induction of apoptosis.
