Multiple focal nodular hyperplasia syndrome: diagnosis with dynamic, gadolinium-enhanced MRI

We present a rare case of multiple focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) with greater than 20 FNH lesions and coexistent liver hemangiomata. Particular attention is paid to the MRI characteristics of this disease process and the features of "multiple FNH syndrome" are discussed.     

Inorganic coordination polymers. XVI. Zinc(II) phosphinate polymers containing polyphenylene and poly(phenylene oxide) side groups

The synthesis and characterization of a series of new phosphinic acids and the zinc polymers prepared from them are reported. These compositions are characterized by the presence of short polyphenylene and poly(phenylene oxide) chains as side groups. Some of the zinc derivatives were found to be tractable polymers with good thermal stability.     

D-state effects in (d, t) and (d, 3He) reactions

The influence of the deuteron and triton [³He] D-state on the form factor required in the DWBA analyses of the ($\text{d}$, t) [($\text{d}$, ³He)] reactions has been studied. The wave functions of Phillips are used for three-nucleon systems because they are designed to yield the correct asymptotic form for the (d, t) and (d, ³He) overlaps. The zero-range parameters D₀ and D₂ which enter into the calculation of the cross section and the tensor analysing power in the DWBA with the local energy approximation are calculated and found to yield values consistent with experimental data.     

Enhancing Activity and Reducing Cost for Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 by Supporting Palladium on Metal Carbides

Electrochemical CO₂ reduction reaction (CO₂RR) with renewable electricity is a potentially sustainable method to reduce CO₂ emissions. Palladium supported on cost‐effective transition‐metal carbides (TMCs) are studied to reduce the Pd usage and tune the activity and selectivity of the CO₂RR to produce synthesis gas, using a combined approach of studying thin films and practical powder catalysts, in situ characterization, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Notably, Pd/TaC exhibits higher CO₂RR activity, stability and CO Faradaic efficiency than those of commercial Pd/C while significantly reducing the Pd loading. In situ measurements confirm the transformation of Pd into hydride (PdH) under the CO₂RR environment. DFT calculations reveal that the TMC substrates modify the binding energies of key intermediates on supported PdH. This work suggests the prospect of using TMCs as low‐cost and stable substrates to support and modify Pd for enhanced CO₂RR activity.     

Synthesis of a novel indolobenzodiazepine

2-[(5-Methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)methyl]benzenamine ( 15 ) was prepared in four steps from o-nitrophenyl-acetic acid, and treated with triethyl orthoformate in an attempt to prepare an oxadiazolobenzodiazepine. However, the resulting product was 13-(5-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)-5H-indolo[2,1-b][1,3]benzodiazepine monohydrate ( 16 ). Indolobenzodiazepine 16 is the first reported member of a novel ring system. Interesting features of the synthesis of 16 are discussed, including the mechanism of formation from 15.
