Two New Cyclopeptides from Arenaria oreophila (Caryophyllaceae)

Two new cyclopeptides, named arenariphilin A ( 1 ) and arenariphilin B ( 2 ), were isolated from the whole plants of Arenaria oreophila. Their structures were determined as cyclo‐(Thr‐Gly) ( 1 ) and cyclo‐(Ser₁‐Gly ‐Ser₂‐Ile ‐Phe₁‐Phe₂) ( 2 ) on the basis of spectral data, especially by 2D‐NMR.     

Quantitative Analysis of Sulfonamide Residues in Natural Animal Casings by HPLC

A multiresidue method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of sulfadiazine, sulfathiazole, sulfapyridine, sulfamerazine, sulfamethoxydiazine, sulfamethylthiazole, sulfamethazine, sulfamonomethoxine, sulfamethoxypyridazine, sulfisoxazole, sulfamethoxazole, sulfadimethoxine and sulfaquinoxaline in natural animal casings by HPLC after solid-phase extraction. The sulfonamides were extracted with acetonitrile and the extract cleaned up with an Oasis MCX SPE cartridge prior to analysis. Separation was on a ZOBAX Eclipse XDB-C₈ column using gradient elution with acetonitrile/methanol/0.1% acetic acid. The effect of separation conditions on chromatographic behavior and recovery has been studied. Calibration graphs were linear with very good correlation coefficients (r = 0.9983−0.9996) in the concentration range from 0.02 to 1 μg mL⁻¹. The limits of quantitation (LOQ) for the 13 sulfonamides were in the range of 1.5–2.2 μg kg⁻¹. Decision limits (CCα) and detection capabilities (CCβ) were in the range of 105.2–111.0 and 113.0–120.2 μg kg⁻¹, respectively. The recovery for casings spiked with 1.5–100 μg kg⁻¹ ranged from 65.2 to 85.9%. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the sulfonamides for six measurements at 100 μg kg⁻¹ were from 2.2 to 7.7%. The applicability of the method to the analysis of salted swine casings, salted sheep casings and dry casing samples was demonstrated.

Chemistry of borate in salt lake brine (XXXIV)

The crystallization processes of hydrated Mg-borates, boric, magnesium hydroxide and Mg-oxychloride from MgO-B₂O₃-18%MgCl₂-H₂O supersaturated solution at 20°C have been studied by kinetic method. The crystallization solid phases were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectra, thermal analysis and chemical analysis. The liquid-solid phase diagram of thermodynamic nonequilibrium state has been given. In this phase diagram, there exist eight crystallization fields, boric acid(H₃BO₃), trigomagneborite(MgO · 3B₂O₃ · 7.5H₂O, MgO · 3B₂O₃ · 7H₂O), hungchaoite(MgO · 2B₂O₃ · 9H₂O), inderite(2MgO · 3B₂O₃ · 15H₂O), chloropinnoite(2MgO · 2B₂O₃ · MgCl₂ · 14H₂O), magnesium hydroxide(Mg(OH)₂) and magnesium oxychloride (5Mg(OH)₂ · MgCl₂ · 8H₂O).     

Highly flexible polyelectrolyte nanotubes

A pressure-filter-template approach was employed to prepare polyelectrolyte nanotubes through layer-by-layer deposition in the alumina template. With the thicker wall, the ordered polymer nanotubes possess a high flexibility. The results demonstrate that the electrostatic interactions of polyelectrolytes play a key role in fabricating water-soluble charged polymer nanotubes. The structure of the polyelectrolyte nanotube was confirmed by SEM, TEM, and UV, respectively.     

Depletion flocculation of latex dispersion in ionic micellar systems

The flocculation behavior of anionic and cationic latex dispersions induced by addition of ionic surfactants with different polarities (SDS and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)) have been evaluated by rheological measurements. It was found that in identical polar surfactant systems with particle surfaces of SDS + anionic lattices and CTAB + cationic lattices, a weak and reversible flocculation has been observed in a limited concentration region of surfactant, which was analyzed as a repletion flocculation induced by the volume-restriction effect of the surfactant micelles. On the other hand, in oppositely charged surfactant systems (SDS + cationic lattices and CTAB + anionic lattices), the particles were flocculated strongly in a low surfactant concentration region, which will be based on the charge neutralization and hydrophobic effects from the adsorbed surfactant molecules. After the particles stabilized by the electrostatic repulsion of adsorbed surfactant layers, the system viscosity shows a weak maximum again in a limited concentration region. This weak maximum was influenced by the shear rate and has a complete reversible character, which means that this weak flocculation will be due to the depletion effect from the free micelles after saturated adsorption.

Preparation and Characterization of Three-dimensionally Ordered Crystalline Macroporous CeO2

Three-dimensional ordered macroporous (3DOM) materials are of great potential importance in catalysis, selective separation, sensor arrays and communications with optical band gaps1. ESR Studies on a Friedel‐Crafts Alkylation Reaction in [bmim]Cl‐AlCl3 Ionic Liquid

The paramagnetic complexes formed in Friedel‐Crafts alkylation reaction systems are invistigated by electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy, in room temperature ionic liquids system 1‐butyl‐3‐methyl‐limidazolium chloride‐aluminium chloride ([bmim]Cl‐AlCl₃). The results indicate that ESR spectra observed are due to polycyclic aromatic radical cations formed from their parent hydrocarbons. ESR spectrum of spin adduct is obtained in an ionic liquid system composed of [bmim]Cl‐AlCl₃. In acidic solution the ¹⁴N hyperfine coupling constant of 4‐oxo‐TEMPO, 2.15 mT, is appreciably larger due to an adduct formed with AlCl₃.     

Syntheses and structures of mono-, di- and tetranuclear rhodium or iridium complexes of thiacalix[4]arene derivatives

The reactions of [Cp*MCl2]2(Cp*=eta5-C5Me5, M = Rh, Ir) with thiacalix[4]arene (TC4A(OH)4) and tetramercaptothiacalix[4]arene (TC4A(SH)4) gave the mononuclear complexes [(Cp*M){eta3-TC4A(OH)2(O)2}] and the dinuclear complexes [(Cp*M)2{eta3eta3-TC4A(S)4}] respectively, while the analogous reactions with dimercaptothiacalix[4]arene (TC4A(OH)2(SH)2) produced the tetranuclear complexes [(Cp*M)2(Cp*MCl2)2-{eta3eta3eta1eta1-TC4A(O)2(S)2}].
