The dynamic fracture behavior of polyester/TiO2 nanocomposites has been characterized and compared with that of the matrix material. A relationship between the dynamic stress intensity factor,K I and the crack tip velocity,å, has been established. Dynamic photoelasticity coupled with high-speed photography has been used to obtain crack tip velocities and dynamic stress fields around the propagating cracks. Birefringent coatings were used to conduct the photoelastic study due to the opaqueness of the nanocomposites. Single-edge notch tension and modified compact tension specimens were used to obtain a broad range of crack velocities. Fractographic analysis was conducted to understand the fracture process. The results showed that crack arrest toughness in nanocomposites was 60% greater than in the matrix material. Crack propagation velocities prior to branching in nanocomposites were found to be 50% greater than those in polyester. 相似文献

A novel quantum‐classical recipe for locating the global minimum on the potential energy surface of a large molecule and simultaneously predicting the associated electronic charge distribution is developed by interfacing the classical particle swarm optimization with a near optimal unitary evolution scheme for the trial one electron density matrix. The unitary transformation is generated by an antihermitian matrix linked to the molecular electronic Hamiltonian at the instantaneous nuclear configurations discovered by the swarm as it flies. The algorithm is used to predict the extensive reorganization of electronic charge distribution and bond lengths in polythiophene oligomers on doping at various levels. 相似文献

The stability of silver nanoparticles is controlled mainly by two major factors, namely, aggregation and oxidation. In the present study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized by using different series of reducing agents like a strong reducing agent (sodium borohydride), a mild reducing agent (tri-sodium citrate), and a weak reducing agent (glucose) with different capping agents, namely, polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP K 30), starch, and sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose (NaCMC). The synthesized silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and anti-microbial activity. The particle size of silver nanoparticles varies in the following order: sodium borohydride < tri-sodium citrate < glucose. Combination of sodium borohydride–polyvinyl pyrrolidone and tri-sodium citrate-polyvinyl pyrrolidone yields stable silver nanoparticles compared to other combinations of reducing agents and capping agents. The stability results confirmed that a refrigerated condition (8°C) was more suitable for storage of silver nanoparticles. Anti-microbial activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized in a sodium borohydride–polyvinyl pyrrolidone mixture shows a larger zone of inhibition compared to other silver nanoparticles. Anti-microbial results confirmed that the anti-microbial activity is better with smaller particle size. The size and stability of silver nanoparticles in the presence of different combinations of stabilizing and capping agents are reported. 相似文献

Nanocolloids consisting of a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) doped with different concentrations (0.10 and 0.50 wt.%) of surface treated gold nanoparticles (GNPs) differing in size (1.77, 5.5 nm) are prepared and characterised. The effects of doping on the clearing temperatures as well as electro-optic and dielectric parameters of a FLC mixture are presented. The clearing temperatures remain invariant with doping. A remarkable increase in the spontaneous polarisation is noticed due to the addition of the GNPs with chiral monolayer capping. Tilt angle and switching time, at least in their tendency, become slightly reduced and increased, respectively. Depending on the size of the nanoparticles, surface plasmon resonance is observed to be slightly increased by increasing the surface. In addition, a small change in localised electric field is found upon doping. The increase in the dielectric permittivity and the dielectric strength is observed and attributed to the parallel coupling between the dipoles of functionalised GNPs, induced by external electric field, and the vector of the spontaneous polarisation of the FLC matrix. A decrease in relaxation frequency is observed. A substantial increment of one order in the dc conductivity is also observed for the nanocolloids. 相似文献

We introduce a new type of nonexpansive mappings and obtain a number of existence and convergence theorems. This new class of nonlinear mapping properly contains nonexpansive, Suzuki-type generalized nonexpansive mappings and partially extends firmly nonexpansive and α-nonexpansive mappings. A fast, feasible, isocratic, stability indicating reverse phase-high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method has been developed and validated for the quantitative determination of marbofloxacin in marbofloxacin tablets. The method was developed using Zorbax SB C18 (150?mm?×?4.6?mm), 5-µm column thermostated at 30°C, mobile phase A (1?mL of trifluoroacetic acid in 1000?mL of water), mobile phase B (acetonitrile) in the ratio of 83:17?v/v at flow rate of 1.0?mL/min, and an injection volume of 10?µL. The analyte was monitored at a wavelength of 298?nm. The method was validated in accordance with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Veterinary International Conference on Harmonization guidelines. A generalized elastic solution for an arbitrarily propagating crack in Functionally Gradient Materials (FGMs) is obtained
through an asymptotic analysis. The shear modulus and mass density of the FGM are assumed to vary exponentially along the
gradation direction. The mode mixity due to the inclination of property gradient is accommodated in the analysis through superposition
of the opening and shear modes. Using this asymptotic solution, contours of constant out of plane displacement are generated.
The effect of inclination of property gradation direction and the crack speed on these contours is discussed.

The singularity dominated zones for straight as well as curved cracks propagating in finite size specimens were determined experimentally by using the optical method of dynamic photoelasticity using the near-field stress equations. Experimental data was carefully analyzed using improved numerical schemes to get the complete stress field around the propagating crack. This stress field was critically examined to evaluate the size of singularity dominated zones for cracks propagating in straight as well as curved paths. For this purpose, the exact solution was compared with the singular solution using stress components σx, σy, τxy and the maximum shear stress τmax as a criterion respectively. For straight cracks where the stress field is symmetric about the crack path, the singularity dominated zones can be determined by using any one of the stresses. However, for a curved crack, the zones were unsymmetric. This study shows that σy, the crack opening stress, yields the best result for characterizing the singularity dominated zone around a running crack tip. 相似文献
