Lithographic design of photosensitive polyarylates based on reaction development patterning

The factors affecting pattern‐forming properties in reaction development patterning were examined with polyarylates with various bisphenol moieties. The developability of the photosensitive polyarylates was dependent on the properties of the subtituent (R) in the bisphenol moieties. The development time decreased in the following order: R?C(CH₃)₂ > fluorenyl unit ? phenolphthalein unit > C(CF₃)₂ > SO₂. This order agreed with that of the reactivity between the polyarylates and ethanolamine, and these orders can be explained by pK_a of the bisphenol used to prepare the polyarylates. The development with NH₂? R′? OH resulted in successful positive‐tone pattern formation. However, pattern formation with the developers containing NH₂? R′? Efficiency of radiation-induced main-chain scission of poly (methyl methacrylate) depends on the irradiation temperature because of coexisting monomer

Effect of irradiation temperature on the main-chain scission of poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) caused by γ-irradiation was studied by means of gel permeation chromatography and ESR spectroscopy. Although no temperature dependency was observed on the scission efficiency for purified PMMA, the efficiency for crude or monomer-doped purified PMMA was decreased by decreasing the temperature below ca. 200 K. Above 200 K the efficiency was constant and did not depend on the purity of PMMA. ESR study of the irradiated PMMA revealed that the suppression of the scission below 200 K is induced by the addition of methyl methacrylate monomer to primary radical species, which otherwise cause the main-chain scission by warming the polymer above 200 K. The primary radical generated above 200 K immediately converts to the scission-type ? CH₂ ? ?(CH₃) COOCH₃ radical through the β-scission of the polymer main chain, so that the efficiency of the scission does not depend on both the impurity and the irradiation temperature. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

The anomalous behaviour of Gd atoms (Fe1−xMnx)2 compounds

The educed Gd atoms in the X-structure (Th₆Mn₂₃-type) of Gd(Fe_1−xMn_x)₂ were magnetically investigated by comparing with Gd₆(Fe_1−yMn_y)₂₃ whose structure is Th₆Mn₂₃-type. The magnetic properties of Gd(Fe_1−xMn_x)₂ (0.4≤x≤0.7) were observed to be quite similar to those of Gd₆(Fe_1−yMn_y)₂₃ (0.4≤y≤0.7).     

Magnetic behavior of Fe0.2Mg0.8TiO3 and Fe0.3Mg0.7TiO3 probed by Mössbauer timescale

Magnetization and Mössbauer measurements have been made on a diluted antiferromagnets Fe_xMg_1?xTiO₃ with x=0.2, 0.3 and 0.7. It has been demonstrated that this system exhibits a spin glass or a reentrant spin glass like behavior in the samples with x around the percolation concenrration x_c≈0.25. It has been shown that various sizes of magnetic clusters are formed well above the transition temperatures determined by the magnetization measurements in the samples with x near x_c. The behavior of Fe_0.2Mg_0.8TiO₃ is discussed as a typical cluster glass.     

Transition between internal transport barriers with different temperature-profile curvatures in JT-60U Tokamak plasmas

A spontaneous transition phenomena between two states of a plasma with an internal transport barrier (ITB) is observed in the steady-state phase of the magnetic shear in the negative magnetic shear plasma in the JT-60U tokamak. These two ITB states are characterized by different profiles of the second radial derivative of the ion temperature inside the ITB region (one has a weak concave shape and the other has a strong convex shape) and by different degrees of sharpness of the interfaces between the L mode and the ITB region, which is determined by the turbulence penetration into the ITB region.     

Cyclopropanation of electron-deficient alkenes with activated dibromomethylene compounds mediated by lithium iodide or tetrabutylammonium salts

Reactions of electron-deficient alkenes with dibromomethylene compounds activated by cyano and ester groups were promoted by LiI or tetrabutylammonium bromide to afford the corresponding cyclopropanes in high yields.
