Gerstenhaber structure and Deligne’s conjecture for Loday algebras

A method for establishing a Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the cohomology of Loday-type algebras is presented. This method is then applied to dendriform dialgebras and three types of trialgebras introduced by Loday and Ronco. Along the way, our results are combined with a result of McClure-Smith to prove an analogue of Deligne’s conjecture for Loday algebras.     

Bulk diffusivity of lattice gases close to criticality

We consider lattice gases where particles jump at random times constrained by hard-core exclusion (simple exclusion process with speed change). The conventional theory of critical slowing down predicts that close to a critical point the bulk diffusivity vanishes as the inverse compressibility. We confirm this claim by proving a strictly positive lower bound for the conductivity.     

Kinetics and Mechanisms of Acetylcholinesterase and Butyrylcholinesterase Inhibition by Cardiovascular Drugs and Benzodiazepines

The goal of this work is to determine enzyme kinetics and mechanisms of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibition by five cardiovascular drugs, lovastatin, simvastatin, amlodipine besylate, nifedipine, and hydralazine hydrochloride, and two benzodiazepines, diazepam and chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride. All drugs in this study are reversible mixed‐type inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase. The pK_i values for acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibition by the cardiovascular drugs are linearly correlated with the molecular weights of the drugs with the slopes of 0.005 and 0.0021, respectively. Therefore, van der Waals' interactions between acetylcholinesterase and the cardiovascular drugs are stronger than those between butyrylcholinesterase and the drugs. This is probably due to a smaller active site gorge and a more significant peripheral anionic substrate binding site of acetylcholinesterase than those of butyrylcholinesterase. The fact that the pK_i values for both butyrylcholinesterase and acetylcholinesterase inhibition by the cardiovascular drugs are linearly correlated with each other suggests that both enzyme inhibition reactions proceed via a common mechanism. Furthermore, amlodipine besylate may be useful in Alzheimer's disease treatment similar to donepezil.     

Enantioseparation of warfarin and its metabolites by capillary zone electrophoresis

A capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) method with direct ultraviolet (UV)-absorbance detection is presented for the simultaneous enantiomeric separation of warfarin and its main metabolites, including warfarin alcohols, 4'-, 6-, and 7-hydroxywarfarin, using highly sulfated beta-cyclodextrin (HS-beta-CD) as the chiral selector. This chiral separation method was optimized in terms of the electrophoretic parameters, which included the concentration of HS-beta-CD used, the type and composition of organic modifier added to the background electrolyte (BGE) buffer, and the BGE buffer pH. Chiral separation of warfarin and its major metabolites was achieved with high resolution, selectivity, efficiency, repeatability, and reproducibility. This optimized chiral analysis of warfarin along with its metabolites was completed within a satisfactory electrophoresis time of 20 min.
