The adsorption of maleic anhydride on the Si(001) surface has been investigated using the first-principles pseudopotential formalism. Our total-energy calculations suggest that maleic anhydride (C2H2-C2O3) adsorbs preferentially through a [2+2] cycloaddition of the C=C bond ([2+2]) with an adsorption energy of around 42 kcal/mol. Besides the [2+2] configuration we have also considered other possible coverages and adsorption models, including the adsorption on inter-row and intrarow dimer sites. Based on the analysis of the relative stability of different adsorption models, we propose the formation of mixed domains, containing the [2+2] unit and an interdimer unit. The comparison of our calculated electronic band structure, vibrational modes, and scanning tunneling microscopy images for the [2+2] and the favored interdimer adsorbed structures corroborate our proposed mixed domain model. 相似文献

An integrated microfluidic device capable of performing a variety of genetic assays has been developed as a step towards building systems for widespread dissemination. The device integrates fluidic and thermal components such as heaters, temperature sensors, and addressable valves to control two nanoliter reactors in series followed by an electrophoretic separation. This combination of components is suitable for a variety of genetic analyses. As an example, we have successfully identified sequence-specific hemagglutinin A subtype for the A/LA/1/87 strain of influenza virus. The device uses a compact design and mass production technologies, making it an attractive platform for a variety of widely disseminated applications. 相似文献

The reaction between gallium (III) and glycine thymol blue has been studied spectrophoptometrically in order to establish the optimum conditions for determining traces of gallium. The gallium (III) glycine thymol blue complex has an absorption maximum at 560 nm against a reagent blank and is stable between pH 4.0 and 5.5. The complex has a composition 1 : 2 and a formation constant of 6.4×107 under the conditions studied. Beer's law is obeyed upto 126 μg of gallium. The net molar absorptivity has been found to be 11,000. The present method is very sensitive and rapid. Anions such as citrate and tartrate inhibit the colour development of the complex. 相似文献

Polymerization of vinyl acetate initiated by β-picolinium p-chlorophenacylide was carried out at 30, 35, and 40°C, using conventional dilatometric technique. The initiator and the monomer exponent values were 0.80 ± 0.15 and unity, respectively. The polymerization was inhibited in the presence of hydroquinone, but was favored by nonpolar solvent and polymerization temperature. The energy of activation was 90.3 KJ mol?1. An average value of k/kt for the present system was found to be 0.37 × 10?2. Summary Calmagite [1-(1-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-phenyl azo)-2-naphthol sulphonic acid], dissociates in two steps. It forms violet complexes with Al3+, Ga3+ and In3+. The stepwise proton-ligand stability constants of calmagite and stepwise metal-ligand stability constants of these complexes were evaluated by potentiometric titration technique ofBjerrum andIrving andRossotti. The order of the stabilities of complexes is In3+ > Ga3+ > > Al3+.

The template polymerization of acrylonitrile (AN) along with atactic-poly(vinyl acetate) of M v (47,090), at 60°C for 120 min in dimethyl formamide (DMF) has been studied dilatometrically to study the effects of template, monomer, and initiator (benzoyl peroxide) concentration upon kinetics. Viscometric measurements showed that complexation between at-PVAc and PAN was maximum when template/polymer ratio was 1:1 and time required for complete complexation was 15 min. The overall energy of activation was 57.76 and 77.01 kJ/mol in the presence and absence of, PVAc, respectively. The overall system follows mechanism I, i.e., the monomer molecules get adsorbed on the surface of the template macromolecules and then propagation proceeds. 相似文献

The shift of the uncoupled OH stretching frequency of water (from its free state position) in crystal hydrates has been plotted against a parameter r0 obtained by subtracting the H-bond (OH...Y) length from the sum of the free state ionic radii of O and Y. From an analysis of this curve it is inferred that MOw coordination in hydrates reduces the ionic size of water oxygen and its effect on the OH stretching frequency is opposite to that of H-bonding. 相似文献
