Structural and conformational studies on citreoviridinol and isocitreoviridinol: syntheses of some 2,6-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octanes

Isocitreoviridinol has been newly isolated from the mycelium of $\text{Penicillium citreo-viride}$ B. (IFO 6050) together with citreoviridinol, and their stereostructures have also been elucidated by means of chemical method: the 2,6-dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octanes have been made, one of which is regarded as a promising synthetic intermediate of citreoviridinol. In addition, isocitreoviridinol diacetate has been derived from citreoviridin in 3 steps.     

Coupling of numerical Green''s matrix and boundary integral equations for the elastodynamic analysis of inhomogeneous bodies on an elastic half-space

A coupled system of integral equations (of the domain and boundary types) is formulated for the elastodynamic response analysis of a locally inhomogeneous body on a homogeneous elastic half-space. The method uses the fundamental solution for homogeneous elastostatics in the inhomogeneous domain owing to the lack of a fundamental solution in inhomogeneous elastodynamics.

The integral representation of displacements in the inhomogeneous domain is formulated with the help of this elastostatic fundamental solution by considering the term induced by the inhomogeneity of materials and the acceleration term as the body force term. Then the Green's matrix is obtained numerically from this integral representation and combined with the ordinary boundary integral equations, which are valid in the exterior homogeneous half-space.

Some numerical examples show the efficiency and the versatility of this coupled method.     

The isolation and structure of tricyclosolidagolactone,a new diterpene from solidago altissima l.

Tricyclosolidagolactone has been isolated from the leaves of $\text{Solidago altissima}$ L., and its structure also been elucidated on the basis of its spectral data coupled with an X-ray crystallographic analysis of the corresponding trihydroxy compound produced on LiAlH₄ reduction.     

Quasi-particle excitations around a pair of half-quantum vortices in p- wave superconductors

Triplet superconductors such as Sr₂RuO₄ and Na_xCoO₂⋅yH₂O are now found to be p-wave (p_x ± ip_y) or f-wave ((p_x ± ip_y) cos cp_z) superconductors. It was phenomenologically suggested that in these p-wave or f-wave superconductors, a pair of half-quantum vortices (HQVs) becomes stable. Using the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation, previously we have analyzed quasi-particle excitations around an HQV at one end of a d-soliton for simplicity. In next study, we will investigate the stability of the pair of HQV’s, which are connected by the d-soliton. For this purpose, we have developed a new numerical method to solve the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation for two vortices state, using Mathieu functions.     

Development of rotating magnetic field system for the β-NMR method

A rotating magnetic field system has been developed to determine the sign of magnetic (μ) and quadrupole (Q) moments by means of the β-ray-detected nuclear magnetic resonance (β-NMR) method. The rotating magnetic field is obtained using two crossed Helmholtz-like coils at right angles. The phase angles of the alternating currents for the two coils are shifted by 90°. Thus the resulting magnetic field is circularly polarized. By the adjustment of the phase-angle difference, a right- or left-circularly polarized magnetic field is produced. Productions of right- or left-rotating magnetic fields including a linear component were confirmed using pickup-coils.
