Phosphorus in organic synthesis—VII : Diphenyl phosphorazidate (DPPA). A new convenient reagent for a modified curtius reaction

A simple one-step conversion of carboxylic acids to urethanes was achieved by diphenyl phosphorazidate (DPPA). The reaction procedure is quite simple, occurring by refluxing an equimolecular mixture of a carboxylic acid, DPPA, and triethylamine in the presence of a hydroxyl component. Aromatic, aliphatic, and heterocyclic carboxylic acids underwent rearrangements in satisfactory yields. As this modified Curtins reaction is much simpler and less laborious than the classical Curtius reaction and proceeds under mild conditions, it may have a broad synthetic utility.     

Suppressive effect of the SOS-inducing activity of chemical mutagen by citric acid esters from Prunus mume Sieb. Et Zucc. using the Salmonella typhimurium TA1535/pSK1002 umu test

A methanol extract from Prunus mume Sieb. Et Zucc. showed a suppressive effect of the SOS-inducing activity on the mutagen 3-amino-1,4-dimethyl-SH-pyrido[4,3-b]indole(Trp-P-1) in the Salmonella typhimurium TA1535/pSK1002 umu test. The methanol extract was re-extracted with hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, butanol and water. The dichloromethane and ethyl acetate fractions showed suppressive effect. Suppressive compounds were isolated by silica gel column chromatography and identified as trimethyl citrate (1) and dimethyl citrate (2) by GC-MS, IR and 1H and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. Compounds 1 and 2 suppressed 51 and 39% of the SOS-inducing activity at a concentration of 2.0 micromol/mL.     

Mössbauer study on the photochemical reactions of pentacarbonyliron with ethene in low temperature nitrogen matrix

The UV-induced photochemical reactions of pentacarbonyliron with ethene in a low temperature nitrogen matrix were studied by means of the Mössbauer technique. Fe/CO/₄/C₂H₄/ was produced by UV-irradiation of penfacarbonyliron in close proximity to ethene molecules in a pure ethene matrix, or a homogeneous cocondensed matrix. The other products were obtained via thermal reactions with ethene of Fe/CO/₄ trapped in stratified matrices.     

Separation and simultaneous determination of cobalt, nickel and copper with 2-(4-methyl-2-quinolylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography

Performance of six quinolylazo compounds was studied as a pre-column derivatizing reagent for the separation of metal ions in the reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. 2-(4-Methyl-2-quinolylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol (QADP) was suited for the determination of Co, Ni and Cu in the presence of a large amount of Fe. The detection limits under the optimized conditions [stationary phase: L-column ODS; mobile phase: acetone-water (62:38, v/v) containing 0.01 M NH(4)SCN and 0.01 M 2-morpholinoethanesulfonic acid-NaOH (pH 6); injection volume: 10 mul] were 0.24 ng for Co, 0.22 for Ni and 0.53 for Cu. This method was successfully applied to the determination of these metal ions in a standard steel sample.     

How does anticommutator\left\{ {Q_\alpha \bar Q_\beta } \right\} realize energy-momentumP μ in quantum supergravity?

It is investigated to what extent the well-known algebra \(\left\{ {Q^S ,\bar Q^S } \right\} = \gamma ^\mu P_\mu \) in the rigid supersymmetry theory holds in quantum supergravity: The anti-commutator \(\left\{ {Q_\alpha ^S ,\bar Q_\beta ^S } \right\} = \gamma ^m \tilde P_m \) defines an “internal” translation generator \(\tilde P_m \) , quite another from the “external” translation generatorP _μ. It is, however, shown that those two operators give the same matrix elements between any two physical states aside from a proportional factor. Such a “miracle” is caused by some particular properties of global gauge transformation charge universal in gauge theories. These properties are fully clarified in a general manner.     

Free vibration of a circular plate elastically restrained along some radial segments

An analysis is presented for the free vibration of a circular plate restrained against deflection along radial segments. With the reaction forces acting on the segments regarded as unknown harmonic loads, the stationary response of the plate to these loads is expressed by the use of the Green function. The force distributions along the segments are expanded into Fourier series with unknown coefficients, and the homogeneous equations for the coefficients are derived by restraint conditions on the supports. The natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the plate are determined by calculating the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the equations. The method is applied to circular plates supported along several radial segments located at equal angular intervals, the natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the plates are calculated numerically and the effect of the supports is discussed.
