Metalloporphyrin catalysts for living and immortal polymerizations

The living polymerization of methyl methacrylate with aluminium porphyrin ( 1 ) proceeded dramatically rapidly at room temperature in the presence of sterically crowded organoaluminium compounds such as methylaluminium ortho-substituted diphenolates ( 3a − 3g ), bis(triphenylmethanolate) ( 4a ), and triphenylaluminium, where undesired reaction between the growing species and the Lewis acids was sterically suppressed. On the basis of this Lewis acid - assisted high-speed living polymerization, various monomers such as ethyl, propyl, butyl, and dodecyl methacrylates, methacrylonitrile, and 1,2-epoxypropane were polymerized very rapidly with the aluminium porphyrin - Lewis acid systems.     

An electrically conductive metallocycle: densely packed molecular hexagons with π-stacked radicals

Electrical conduction among metallocycles has been unexplored because of the difficulty in creating electronic transport pathways. In this work, we present an electrocrystallization strategy for synthesizing an intrinsically electron-conductive metallocycle, [Ni₆(NDI-Hpz)₆(dma)₁₂(NO₃)₆]·5DMA·nH₂O (PMC-hexagon) (NDI-Hpz = N,N′-di(1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxdiimide). The hexagonal metallocycle units are assembled into a densely packed ABCABC… sequence (like the fcc geometry) to construct one-dimensional (1D) helical π-stacked columns and 1D pore channels, which were maintained under the liberation of H₂O molecules. The NDI cores were partially reduced to form radicals as charge carriers, resulting in a room-temperature conductivity of (1.2–2.1) × 10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹ (pressed pellet), which is superior to that of most NDI-based conductors including metal–organic frameworks and organic crystals. These findings open up the use of metallocycles as building blocks for fabricating conductive porous molecular materials.

Intrinsically electron-conductive metallocycle was synthesized. π-Radicals play a key role in constructing π-stacked columns among molecular hexagons and achieving high electrical conductivity over 10⁻⁴ S cm⁻¹ in polycrystalline pellet.     

Spectroscopic and crystallographic studies on the stability of self-assembled coordination nanotubes

On complexation with (en)Pd(NO3)2, tetrakis(3,5-pyridine) ligand gives two isomeric coordination nanotubes, which are in slow equilibrium despite the presence of sixteen Pd-N bonds in the tube framework.     

Crying and Behavioral Characteristics in Premature Infants

The aims of this study were to analyze 1) whether there was the relationship between the neonatal behavioral characteristics and amount of crying in premature infants at term age, and 2) what kind of difference between infants with high levels of crying and cry less on neonatal behavioral characteristics using the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS). The study participants consisted of 69 healthy low birth-weight infants who were admitted to the NICU at the Nagasaki University Hospital, Nagasaki, Japan. This study analyzed the relationship between NBAS scores measured neonatal behavioral performance and crying at term age. This study results indicate that there was significant statistical negative correlation between the amount of total daily crying and Habituation, Range of state, Regulation of state, and Autonomic stability cluster scores and some individual items scores (Response decrement to light, Response decrement to tactile of foot, Alert responsiveness, Examiner persistence, Motor maturity, Irritability, General irritability, Cuddliness, Consolability, Self-quieting activity, and State regulation). The high levels crying group also showed higher responsivity than less crying group in the items of Peak of excitement, Rapidity of build-up, Irritability and General irritability. In conclusion, neonatal behavioral characteristics such as poor inhibit discrete stimuli while asleep, hyper-responsivity and poor state regulation abilities were risk factors of high levels of crying.     

Racemic but tropos (chirally flexible) BIPHEP ligands for Rh(I)-complexes: highly enantioselective ene-type cyclization of 1,6-enynes

[reaction: see text] The tropos (chirally flexible) or atropos (chirally rigid) nature of BIPHEP-Rh complexes at room temperature critically depends on the amines complexed. The aliphatic DPEN complex is atropos, whereas the aromatic DABN complex is tropos. BIPHEP-Rh chirality can thus be controlled by DABN at room temperature. The amine-free BIPHEP-Rh complex is tropos. At 5 degrees C, even amine-free BIPHEP-Rh complexes are atropos and hence can be used as enantiopure catalysts to give high enantioselectivity in ene-type cyclization of 1,6-enynes.     

Molecular orientation and mechanical anisotropy of polypropylene sheet containing N,N′‐dicyclohexyl‐2,6‐naphthalenedicarboxamide

Effect of mixing and processing conditions at T‐die extrusion on the structure and mechanical properties is studied for isotactic polypropylene (PP) containing a small amount of β‐form nucleating agent, N,N′‐dicyclohexyl‐2,6‐naphthalenedicarboxamide. It is found that trigonal β crystals are predominantly formed in the extruded samples containing the nucleating agent irrespective of the mixing and processing conditions, leading to the marked mechanical toughness. On the contrary, the molecular orientation is significantly affected by the mixing and processing conditions. In particular, it should be noted that PP molecules in the extruded sheet which was mixed at high temperature (260 °C) and extruded at low temperature (200 °C) orient perpendicular to the applied flow direction.
