Rhodium‐Catalyzed Stitching Polymerization of 1,5‐Hexadiynes and Related Oligoalkynes

A new mode of polymerization, rhodium‐catalyzed stitching polymerization, has been developed for the synthesis of π‐conjugated polymers with bridged repeating units from nonconjugated 1,5‐hexadiynes containing both terminal and internal alkyne moieties as monomers. The polymerization proceeded smoothly with a high degree of stitching efficiency under mild conditions, and 1,5,9‐decatriyne and 1,5,9,13‐tetradecatetrayne monomers could also be employed. The present polymerization strategy would be particularly beneficial for the synthesis of polymers consisting of a repeating unit that is difficult to prepare as a stable monomer because it does not require the use of a preformed bridged π‐conjugated monomer.

Quantum Nernst effect

It is theoretically predicted that the Nernst coefficient is strongly suppressed and the thermal conductance is quantized in the quantum Hall regime of the two-dimensional electron gas. The Nernst effect is the induction of a thermomagnetic electromotive force in the y-direction under a temperature bias in the x-direction and a magnetic field in the z-direction. The quantum nature of the Nernst effect is analyzed with the use of a circulating edge current and is demonstrated numerically. The present system is a physical realization of the non-equilibrium steady state.     

Interactions between clusters of self-interstitial atoms via a conservative climb in BCC–Fe

We conduct kinetic Monte Carlo simulations for the conservative climb motion of a cluster of self-interstitial atoms (SIAs) towards another SIA cluster in BCC–Fe; the conservative climb velocity is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the distance between them, as per the prediction based on Einstein’s equation. The size of the climbing cluster significantly affects its conservative climb velocity, while the size of the cluster that originates the stress field does not. The activation energy for the conservative climb is considerably greater than that derived in previous studies and strongly dependent on the climbing cluster size. The results presented in this study are the atomistic evaluation of the behaviour of SIA clusters through three-dimensional motion, which cannot be achieved using molecular dynamics techniques alone.     

Measurement of the vector A y and tensor A yy , A xx , A xz analyzing powers for the dd → 3H p reaction at 200 MeV

The data on the vector A _y and tensor A _yy , A _xx , A _xz analyzing powers for the d → ³H p reaction have been obtained at the energy of the initial deuteron of 200MeV in the angular range of 0–95 degrees in the c.m.s. The calculations performed within one-nucleon exchange model with the use of the standard three-nucleon bound state wave functions fail to reproduce the data on the tensor analyzing powers.     

Molybdenum-catalyzed ring-closing metathesis of allenynes

A ring-closing metathesis reaction of allenynes occurred at room temperature in the presence of a molybdenum alkylidene complex to give ring-closed vinylallenes. The vinylallene skeletons were constructed by a metathesis-type reaction between the alkyne moiety and the proximal carbon-carbon double bond of the allene moiety. [reaction: see text]     

Resolving the discrepancy of 135 MeV pd elastic scattering cross sections and relativistic effects

Three precise measurements for elastic pd scattering at 135 MeV/A have been performed with the three different experimental setups. The cross sections are described well by the theoretical predictions based on modern nucleon-nucleon forces combined with three-nucleon forces. Relativistic Faddeev calculations show that relativistic effects are restricted to backward angles. This result supports the two measurements recently reported by RIKEN and contradicts the KVI data.     

A highly efficient asymmetric Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction catalyzed by cationic chiral palladium(ii) complexes

Facile deposition of [60]fullerene on the electrode by electrochemical oxidative polymerization of thiophene

It was found that [60]fullerene encapsulated in anionic calix[8]arenes can be readily deposited by electrochemical oxidative polymerization of ethylenedioxythiophene: the resultant electrode generates a photocurrent wave (ca. 100 nA cm(-2)) in response to visible light irradiation.
