Synthesis, Physical Properties, and Field-Effect Mobility of Isomerically Pure syn-/anti-Anthradithiophene Derivatives

Isomerically pure syn-/anti-isomers of 2,8-dimethylanthradithiophene (DMADT) were synthesized in five steps and characterized using thermogravimetry, X-ray single crystal analysis, UV-vis absorption, and electrochemical measurements. The physical properties in solution were slightly different for each isomer, whereby the more obvious differences were observed in the solid state. A field-effect transistor using the anti-isomer showed a much higher performance than that using the syn-isomer.     

A method for the machine detection of near equivalence of major substructures in a molecule

The use of the concept of near equivalence of substructures in a computer program concerned with organic synthesis requires a concrete definition of «nearness» and an efficient method for implementing the concept. Such a method has been devised and its use is described and examples are given.     

Oxidation process of Mg films by using high-concentration ozone for magnetic tunnel junctions

Ozone oxidization process of metal Mg film for the barrier formation in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) is investigated. Ozone exposure method is expected to oxidize ultra-thin metal films more mildly than with the plasma oxidization method, since the energy level of atomic oxygen is ∼2 eV lower in the ozone method than in the plasma method. The main results were as follows: (1) In the case of ozone oxidation, the diffusion coefficient of oxygen in the insulator is much smaller than that in plasma oxidation. (2) Mg–O film thickness, which is formed by reaction immediately on the metal Mg surface, is thicker as compared with the Al case. (3) In the ozone oxidation method of metal films with the thickness of more than the film thickness formed by reaction, the oxidation is spontaneously stopped at the interface to the bottom Co–Fe. As a result, we succeeded in inducing a TMR ratio of 25% at room temperature in MTJs with Mg(1.3 nm)–O barrier with wider exposure range than in the plasma case.     

Characterization of p-type ZnSe grown by MOVPE; excitonic emission lifetime measurements

Time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) measurements are made on p-type nitrogen-doped ZnSe grown by photoassisted metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE) together with post-growth thermal annealing, in order to investigate optical quality of the layers. It is suggested that the annealing degrades the layer quality and the MOVPE samples have more non-radiative recombination centers compared with MBE samples. A key issue for high quality p-ZnSe by MOVPE seems to be optimization of annealing conditions.     

A new synthesis of d1-coriolin A. Application of a new SN2 reaction at a neopentylic position

Dicyclopentadiene has been stereoselectively converted to a key tricyclic intermediate for the total synthesis of coriolin, through a route which involves a new S_N2 reaction at a neopentylic position.     

Anomalous dissolution behavior of the diazepam — γ-cyclodextrin complex in polymer solutions

The dissolution process of the diazepam — -cyclodextrin complex in aqueous polymer solutions has been studied. Hydroxypropyl cellulose and polyvinylpyrrolidone stabilize the supersaturated state of the complex, maintaining the higher drug level for a longer period. Polyethyleneglycol and dextran accelerated the dissociation of the complex, and caused a rapid decrease in drug concentration. These anomalous dissolution behaviors are discussed on the basis of viscosity changes of the polymer solutions along with the competitive interaction of polymers for the inclusion complex.
