Superconducting Double Perovskite Bismuth Oxide Prepared by a Low‐Temperature Hydrothermal Reaction

Perovskite‐type structures (ABO₃) have received significant attention because of their crystallographic aspects and physical properties, but there has been no clear evidence of a superconductor with a double‐perovskite‐type structure, whose different elements occupy A and/or B sites in ordered ways. In this report, hydrothermal synthesis at 220 °C produced a new superconductor with an A‐site‐ordered double perovskite structure, (Na_0.25K_0.45)(Ba_1.00)₃(Bi_1.00)₄O₁₂, with a maximum T_c  of about 27 K.     

Suspension Splittings and Self-maps of Flag Manifolds

If G is a compact connected Lie group and T is a maximal torus, we give a wedge decomposition of ΣG/T by identifying families of idempotents in cohomology. This is used to give new information on the self-maps of G/T.     

Laser-induced fluorescence and microwave-optical double-resonance study of the B1Σ+-X1Σ+ system of magnesium monoxide

Doppler-limited, laser-induced fluorescence spectra on the B¹Σ⁺-X¹Σ⁺ (v′ = v″ = 0 and 1) system of MgO have been obtained. The results of the optical analysis were merged with our microwave-optical double-resonance measurements to produce the following set of spectroscopic parameters for the B and X states, where the units are in cm^?1, and the uncertainties represent 95% confidence limits: T′_0.0 = 20003.594(2); B′₀ = 0.58004(3); D′₀ = 1.13(2) × 10^?6; B″₀ = 0.57198(3); D″₀ = 1.20(2) × 10⁶; T′_1.1 = 20043.423(2); B′₁ = 0.57528(4); D′₁ = 1.14(11) × 10⁶; B″₁ = 0.56674(4); D″₁ = 1.22(10) × 10⁶.     

Thermal desorption of silicon from polycrystalline tungsten surfaces

The adsorption of Si on polycrystalline tungsten surfaces was studied for the first time by means of thermal desorption. Instead of the main peak of Si ($\text{m}\text{e}\text{=28}$), the isotope ($\text{m}\text{e}\text{=30}$) contained naturally (～3%) was monitored by mass spectrometry. This method can reduce the contribution from CO to the mass signal of Si. Two desorption peaks were observed at 1480 and 1820 K. The activation energies for the desorption were estimated to be about 90 and 110 kcal/mol, respectively.     

Classification of an infinite series of static solutions to the vacuum Einstein equations

We propose a classification of an infinite series of the static solutions to the vacuum Einstein equation by means of their soliton number and the real and/or complex pole trajectories. We also show that in the 4-soliton solution there appears an intriguing ring solution of which the curvature invariant has a finite limit at the rings.

Stellar reaction rate of 20Ne(α, γ)24Mg

The reaction ²⁰Ne(α, γ)²⁴Mg has been investigated at E_α(lab) = 0.55–3.20 MeV. Neon gas enriched to 99.95% in ²⁰Ne was recirculated in differentially pumped gas target systems of the extended and quasipoint jet types. New resonances were found at E_α(lab) = 958, 1226, 1260, 1704 and 2277 keV, which correspond to known states in ²⁴Mg. Excitation energies, γ-ray decay schemes, γ-ray angular distributions, resonance widths and strengths as well as J^π and T-assignments are reported for all the resonances. Information on low-lying states in ²⁴Mg is also obtained. The nuclear and astrophysical aspects of the results are discussed.
