Molecular vibrations and force fields of alkyl sulfides: Part XV. C-S stretching vibrations of aliphatic alkyl sulfides

The C-S stretching vibrations of 28 aliphatic sulfides including one thiol are summarized, and all of the C-S stretching bands are classified into several groups. An extraordinarily low frequency associated with the ethyl group is discussed briefly.

Artificial nucleosides possessing metal binding sites at the 3'- and 5'-positions of the deoxyribose moieties

This paper describes a convenient synthetic procedure for nucleoside mimics, 1-6, in which the 3',5'-hydroxy groups of natural 2'-deoxythymidine or 2'-deoxyadenosine are replaced by thiol, amine, or alkylthiol groups. Such nucleosides would be built up into a single DNA strand with cooperative participation of metal coordination, where internucleoside linkages are replaced by metal complexation motifs. The X-ray crystal structure and complexation behaviors of 3',5'-dithiothymidine, 1, with Au(I) are also reported.     

Finite Modules of Finite Injective Dimension Over a Noetherian Algebra

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. Let P(R) (respectively,I(R)) be the category of all finite R-modules of finite projective(respectively, injective) dimension. Sharp [9] constructed acategory equivalence between I(R) and P(R) for certain Cohen–Macaulaylocal rings R. Thus many properties about finite modules offinite projective dimension can be connected with those of finiteinjective dimension through this equivalence.     

Permeability control in electro‐sensitive microcapsules with immobilized ferroelectric liquid crystalline segments

Nylon‐polystyrene microcapsules with immobilized ferroelectric liquid crystalline segments were prepared, and permeability control of an encapsulated core material was investigated under an external electric field. A ferroelectric liquid crystal monomer possessing both mesogenicity and chirality responded effectively to the external electrical field. Permeation of the material (oxprenolol) contained in the inner aqueous core of the microcapsules was enhanced under a weak electric field (2 V). Furthermore, the permeability of oxprenolol did not depend on the external electric field in the absence of the ferroelectric liquid crystal segments. To clarify the controlled‐release mechanism of the core material, the light transmittance of the polymer membranes was quantitatively evaluated under an external electric field using a handmade polarized light transmittance apparatus. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
