Existence of solution for Eguchi-Oki-Matsumura equation describing phase separation and order-disorder transition in binary alloys

In this paper we consider the Eguchi-Oki-Matsumura equation which consists of the fourth- and second-order coupled equations of parabolic type. It is shown that this system admits the unique global solution.     

Stereoselective synthesis of (25R)-25,26-dihydroxy-23-oxovitamin D3 and its enzymatic conversion to (25R)-1α,25,26-trihydroxy-23-oxovitamin D3, a putative metabolite of vitamin D3

(25$\text{R}$)-25,26-Dihydroxy-23-oxovitamin D₃ was synthesized efficiently and stereoselectively, and it was converted enzymatically to (25$\text{R}$)-1α,25,26-trihydroxy-23-oxovitamin D₃, a putative metabolite of 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D₃. The spectral and chemical properties of (25$\text{R}$)-25,26-dihydroxy-23-oxovitamin D₃ and its 1α,hydroxylated derivative disagree with those reported for the isolated metabolite.     

Al(Cap)3 as initiator in the anionic polymerization of ε-caprolactam at high temperature

Mechanism for polymerization of ε-caprolactam in the presence of both sodium and aluminum caprolactamate was investigated at 171°C. The role of Al(Cap)₃ as an initiator was revealed. The apparent rate constant of propagation reaction decreased with the increase in the concentration of Al(Cap)₃, as the two different metal salts interact even at 171°C. The activation energy of the overall polymerization reaction with this catalyst system was estimated to be 41.18 kcal/mole.     

Determination of the specific interaction of disubstituted aromatic compounds on hydrous zirconium oxide-loaded porous polymer resin

Summary A porous polymer resin loaded with hydrous zirconium oxide (Zr-gel) was evaluated as a stationary phase for the liquid chromatographic separation of disubstituted aromatic compounds. The prepared Zr-gel was used to separate disubstituted phenols andortho-substituted benzoic acid derivatives in reversed-phase mode. The retention time of catechol was greater than those of other disubstituted phenols; this implies that the Zr-gel has specificity for the phenolic hydroxyl group. The retention behavior ofortho-substituted benzoic acid derivatives on the Zr-gel was also evaluated in reversedphase mode using buffer. Phthalic acid was specifically retained in the vicinity of pH 6.0, which has been regarded as the equal adsorbic point. Similar behavior was also observed for salicylic acid, although the retention time of salicylic acid was less than that of phthalic acid. It seems that the specific retention behavior of hydrous zirconium oxide is a result of complexation with ligands such as hydroxyl and carboxyl groups. The results of this study have revealed that the retention mechanism of hydrous zirconium oxide is a combination of ion exchange and interaction based on complexation with ligands.     

Some properties of poly-α-piperidone

The high molecular weight polymer of α-piperidone, which had been unobtainable with the use of alkali metal, trialkyl aluminum, or Grignard reagent as catalyst, was prepared with M–AlEt₃, (where M is alkali metal), MAlEt₄ or KAlEt₃ (piperidone) as catalyst and N-acyl-α-piperidone as initiator. From the determination of the behavior of the solution viscosity of poly-α-piperidone in m-cresol at 30°C. the value of 0.27 for the Huggins constant was obtained. Examination of the correlation between the number-average molecular weight, determined by endgroup titration, and the intrinsic viscosity gave a somewhat small value for the endgroup COOH. This may be considered due to the consumption of N-acyl-α-piperidone by a propagating polymer in the course of polymerization. The thermal stabilities of the polyamides, nylons 4, 5, and 6, was in the order nylons 6 > 5 > 4 according to differential thermal and thermogravimetric analyses, Poly-α-piperidone, which has a reduced viscosity of 0.7, shows a melting point of 270°C.. which was expected from the zigzag pattern of the correlation between melting points and numbers of CH₂ groups for polyamino-acid polymers.     

A racemization test in peptide synthesis using 4-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-4-methylmorpholinium chloride (DMT-MM)

Racemization of the C-terminal amino acid (Ala) has been studied in various solvents during coupling between 4-methoxybenzyloxycarbonyl (Z(OMe))-Gly-L-Ala-OH and phenylalanine benzyl ester (H-Phe-OBzl) with 4-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-thiazin-2-yl)-4-methylmorpholinium chloride (DMT-MM). The reaction occurred without substantial racemization in AcOEt, tetrahydrofuran (THF), N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), CH3CN, and 2-PrOH, while a slight racemization was observed in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), EtOH, and MeOH. The extent of racemization may correlate with the polarity of the solvents.     

The first ammonium aromatic diselenoates: stable heavy congeners of aromatic carboxylic acid salts

Ammonium aromatic diselenoates were synthesized by reacting aromatic diselenoic acid 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl esters derived from aluminum 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl selenolate with aromatic selenoic acid O-methyl esters with ammonium fluorides. The results of molecular structure analysis and NMR studies of ammonium salts supported the double-bond character between the carbon atom and selenium atoms.     

Dicopper-dioxygen complex supported by asymmetric pentapyridine dinucleating ligand

A dicopper(I) complex supported by a novel asymmetric pentapyridine dinucleating ligand, consisting of tetradentate and tridentate metal-binding sites, has been synthesized and characterized. The dicopper(I) complex reacted with molecular oxygen at a low temperature to give an unprecedented mu-peroxo dicopper(II) complex presumably having a mu-eta1:eta2 binding mode, the spectroscopic features and the reactivity of which have been explored in detail.
