Astrophysical constraints on broken supersymmetry

Arguments on the evolution of stars at an advanced stage constrain the interaction strength of light neutral fermions appearing in broken supersymmetric theories. In particular a consideration of white dwarfs leads to a bound on the fundamental scale of supersymmetry breaking d > 2.6 × 10³GeV², an order of magnitude improvement compared to the existing bound. A new bound on the scalar electron mass is obtained also.     

Fitting autoregression with regularly missed observations

The effect of regularly missed observations on the estimation of parameters of an autoregressive (AR) process is investigated by using the frequency domain method. For first order AR processes, numerical results are shown to see a behavior of variances of the estimate due to the missed observations. In some cases, we can positively utilize the concept of missed observations to decrease the variances if the number of observations is fixed but time instants at with the observations are made can be changed.     

Laser Stark spectroscopy of the ν4 band of CH3C15N: Fermi resonance with 3ν83

Laser Stark spectra for the ν₄ band of CH₃C¹⁵N have been measured by using CO₂ and N₂O lasers. Almost 650 resonances have been assigned to about 140 ro-vibrational transitions with J′ ≤ 34 and K ≤ 11. An anomaly of the rotational structure around K = 7 has been proved to be due to a Fermi interaction by analyzing each K subband separately. Observed data have been fitted to a model which includes ν₄-3ν₈³ Fermi coupling by the method of least squares. The standard deviation of observed from calculated frequencies is 4.6 MHz. Molecular constants derived are also listed.     

Effective 4ƒ energy level in virtual excitation and in photoemission processes in Ce-pnictides

Effects of relaxation of occupied band electrons to the ?-hole state through the hybridization between ? and band states are studied based on a detailed model for Ce-monopnictides. The effective 4? level is shifted about 1–2 eV to shallow energy side from the unrenormalized bare level in processes in which the 4? electron is only virtually excited, such as in excitation to the vacant p band states through the p-? mixing. Photoemission spectra show two peaks, one near the Fermi energy and the other about 3 eV below it. The latter is shifted to deep energy side about 0.5–1 eV from the bare level when it lies near the bottom of the valence band. The discrepancy between the 4? level estimated from the low energy phenomena and that from photoemission is resolved.     

Mössbauer spectroscopic study on polyacetylene doped with iodine

The ¹²⁹I Mössbauer effect has been applied to polyacetylene films of cis-(CHI_0.23)_x as prepared and cis-(CHI_0.20)_x led under dynamic evacuation. It has been clarified that both films contain linear I^?₅ and I^?₃ with symmetric charge population and that the fraction of I^?₃ increases after evacuation. The mechanism of electrical conductivity in iodine-doped polyacetylene has been discussed on the basis of the chemical form and the dynamic behavior of the anion species.     

The Λ parameter for improved lattice gauge actions

The ratios of the scale parameters are calculated for lattice gauge theories with action including up to six-link loops. Comparison with the results of Monte Carlo calculations are also made.     

NeK X-ray yields on Be,C, Mg,Al and Ti bombardments

NeK X-rays have been measured when various thick targets were irradiated by Ne^{+, ++} ions. For Mg, Al and Ti targets, the X-ray yield dependence on Ne energy agrees qualitatively with the electron promotion model prediction.     

Study of the side band in 188Pt

Low-lying levels in ¹⁸⁸pt were studied using the ¹⁹¹Ir(p, 4nγ)¹⁸⁸Pt reaction and higher spin members of the quasi-γ band were proposed. The results resemble a slightly perturbed phonon scheme, from comparisons with macroscopic calculations which would remove the degeneracy of the phonon multiplets. The importance of mass parameter renormalization is pointed out.     

Some new consistency relations connecting spline values at mesh and mid points

This paper is concerned with polynomial splines on a uniform mesh. Linear dependence relations connecting spline values at mesh and mid points are developed.
