Molecular layering method used to sensitize luminescence from terbium(III) Oxide nanoparticles in porous glass

Possibility of obtaining nanoparticles of terbium(III) oxide in a porous glass by impregnating the support with an aqueous solution of TbCl₃ and subsequently calcining dried samples in air at 300°C was studied. The molecular layering method was used to modify the surface of encapsulated particles with titanium oxide layers of controlled thickness.     

The structure of side product in the synthesis of substituted 1,3-tropolones

The structure of pyrocatechol p-toluenesulfonate resulting from the reaction between 3,5-di(tert-butyl)-1,2-benzoquinone and substituted 2-methylquinolines was proved by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Parallel formation of hydrazine and ammonia in dinitrogen reduction in the system Na(Hg)?Ti(OH)3?Mo(III)

Dinitrogen reduction by an alkali metal amalgam in methanol at 20°C in the presence of Ti(OH)₃ containing a Mo(III) compound leads to the parallel formation of hydrazine and ammonia. From the kinetic data and the¹⁵N₂H₄ tracer results it follows that NH₃ is formed mainly without the intermediate formation of free N₂H₄. It is suggested that two kinds of active centers are present in the system, one reducing N₂ to N₂H₄ and another forming NH₃ directly from coordinated N₂.
