The Effect of β-Nitro Group on the Reactivity and the Stereoselectivity of Amidation of Bicyclic Acids by Dehydration with DCC

Amidation of exo/endo mixture of β-nitro bicyclic acids by dehydration with DCC, gives only the corresponding exo-amides.     

A novel condition for capillary electrophoretic analysis of reductively aminated saccharides without removal of excess reagents

We have identified novel CE conditions for the separation of 7‐amino‐4‐methylcoumarin‐labeled monosaccharides and oligosaccharides from glycoproteins. Using a neutrally coated capillary and alkaline borate buffer containing hydroxypropylcellulose and ACN, saccharide derivatives form anionic borate complexes, which move from the cathode to the anode in an electric field and are detected near the anodic end. Excess labeling reagents and other fluorescent products remain at the cathodic end. Fluorimetric detection using an LED as a light source enables determination of monosaccharide derivatives with good linearity between at least 0.4 and 400 μM, may correspond to 140 amol to 140 fmol. The lower LOD (S/N = 5) is only 80 nM in the sample solution (ca. 28 amol). The results were comparable to reported values using fluorometric detection LC. The method was also applied to the analysis of oligosaccharides that were enzymatically released from glycoproteins. Fine resolution enables profiling of glycans in glycoproteins. The applicability of the method was examined by applying it to other derivatives labeled with nonacidic tags such as ethyl p‐aminobenzoate‐ and 2‐aminoacridone‐labeled saccharides.     

Non-Darcian effects on conjugate natural convection between horizontal concentric cylinders filled with a porous medium

An analysis is presented of steady conjugate free convection between two horizontal concentric cylinders filled with a fluid-saturated porous medium; the innermost cylinder surface is maintained at a high temperature and the outermost cylinder surface at a lower one. The velocity-pressure-gradient relation is taken to be nonlinear, with departure from the linear Darcy situation measured by a parameter F₀. The investigation is based on the numerical solution, by a finite-difference method, of the full momentum and energy equations. The streamline and isotherm patterns as well as the local and mean Nusselt numbers are plotted for several physical parameters to show some of the flow and heat transfer characteristics. It is found that all parameters play an important role in the flow and heat transfer characteristics. The model can be applied to a variety of engineering problems.     

Water‐ and Temperature‐Triggered Reversible Structural Transformation of Tetranuclear Cobalt(II) Cores Sandwiched by Polyoxometalates

Although stimuli‐responsive structural transformations of inorganic materials have attracted considerable attention because of their potential use as functional switchable materials, multinuclear metal cores frequently suffer from unexpected dissociation of metal cations and/or irreversible transformations into infinite structures. In this study, we describe the successful demonstration of the water‐ and temperature‐triggered reversible structural transformation between cubane‐ and planar‐type tetranuclear Co^II cores sandwiched by polyoxometalates. The arrangements and coordination geometries of the Co^II cations were interconverted by simple hydration and dehydration, resulting in the manipulation of the magnetic and optical properties of these compounds. Moreover, this system showed unique thermochromism through temperature‐dependent reversible structural interconversion.     

Synthesis of taurospongin A: a potent inhibitor of DNA polymerase and HIV reverse transcriptase,using pi-allyltricarbonyliron lactone complexes

The synthesis of taurospongin A has been achieved using, as a key step, a pi-allyltricarbonyliron lactone complex to control a highly stereoselective addition of a methyl group to a carbonyl unit located in the side chain of the complex.     

A novel synthesis of half-protected 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds

It has been found that the reaction of enol silyl ethers with 2-ethoxy-1,3-dithiolane proceeds smoothly in the presence of zinc chloride catalyst to afford half-protected 1,3-dicarbony1 compounds in moderately good yields.
