Resonance-enhanced sum-frequency generation is introduced as a novel tool for investigation of magnetically ordered compounds. A tunable laser at frequency 1 is used to excite an intermediate electronic transition resonantly while a second laser at frequency 2 is used to scan the nonlinear spectrum at 1+2. The technique is particularly useful for investigation of centrosymmetric compounds since resonance enhancement at 1 leads to large nonlinear signals even in the case of weakly allowed nonlinear processes. The technique is demonstrated on antiferromagnetic NiO and KNiF3 and also shown to be useful for investigation of samples with large thickness or absorption. The chemisorption of water (H2O and D2O) on a LaB6(100) surface was studied with reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) and high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). The clean surface was exposed to H2O and D2O at temperatures from 90 K to room temperature, and spectra were acquired after heating to temperatures as high as 1200 K. It was found that water molecularly adsorbs on the surface at 90 K as a monomer at low coverages and as amorphous solid water at higher coverages. Water adsorbs dissociatively at room temperature to produce surface hydroxyl species as indicated by OH/OD stretch peaks at 3676/2701 cm?1. Room temperature adsorption also reveals low frequency loss features in HREEL spectra near 300 cm?1 that are quite similar to results obtained following the dissociative adsorption of O2. In the latter case, the loss features were attributed to the LaO stretch of O atoms bridge-bonded between two La atoms. In the case of dissociative adsorption of H2O, the low frequency loss features could be due to either the LaO vibrations of adsorbed O or of adsorbed OH.  相似文献

A unified theory of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is presented for multiband ferromagnetic metals with dilute impurities. In the clean limit, the AHE is mostly due to extrinsic skew scattering. When the Fermi level is located around anticrossing of band dispersions split by spin-orbit interaction, the intrinsic AHE to be calculated ab initio is resonantly enhanced by its nonperturbative nature, revealing the extrinsic-to-intrinsic crossover which occurs when the relaxation rate is comparable to the spin-orbit coupling.  相似文献

A new, wide-band, high-speed and high-sensitivity THz detector has been developed. The prototype detector consists of a parabolic cylindrical mirror, a long wire antenna and a Schottky barrier diode. Direct detection measurements have shown a stable sensitivity of 150 ± 50 V/W for 1–2 THz without any adjustments. The long wire antenna was fixed at the focus of parabolic cylindrical mirror then it has been realized less operation steps, easy coupling to the external THz signals and a dramatic enhancement in the practicality of this system. The optically polished mirror and frosted surface one showed comparable sensitivities, thus easy polishing and less cost mirror fabrication can be applied for this system. The radiation pattern showed a maximum radiation angle of approximately 23° with its dominant main lobe, which was attributed to the wire antenna character and confirmed good agreements with classical antenna theory.  相似文献

Abstract

Irradiation with high-energy particles induces athermal migration of point defects, which affects defect reactions at low temperatures where thermal migration is negligible. We conducted molecular dynamics simulations of vacancy migration in iron and copper driven by recoil energies under electron irradiation in a high-voltage electron microscope. Minimum kinetic energy required for migration was about 0.8 and 1.0 eV in iron and copper at 20 K, which was slightly higher than the activation energy for vacancy migration. Around the minimum energy, the migration succeeded only when a first nearest neighbour (1NN) atom received the kinetic energy towards the vacancy. The migration was induced by higher kinetic energies even with larger deflection angles. Above several electron-volts and a few 10s of electron-volts, vacancies migrated directly to 2NN and 3NN sites, respectively. Vacancy migration had complicated directional dependence at higher kinetic energies through multiple collisions and replacement of atoms. The probability of vacancy migration increased with the kinetic energy and remained around 0.3–0.5 jumps per recoil event for 20–100 eV. At higher temperatures, thermal energies slightly increased the probability for kinetic energies less than 1.5 eV. The cross section of vacancy migration was 3040 and 2940 barns for 1NN atoms in iron and copper under irradiation with 1.25 MV electrons at 20 K: the previous result was overestimated by about five times.  相似文献

Cu nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of impurities (Zn, Ni, and La)-doped spin-1/2 Heisenberg ladder compounds SrCu2O3 (Sr123) are broadened with Curie-like temperature (T) dependence. The spectra have been successfully fit by using a quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) staggered polarization (SP) model. Such a SP has also revealed in Cu NMR measurements of Sr14–x Ca x Cu24O41 (Cax) with hole-doped ladders. The origin of possible 3D antiferromagnetic (AF) long-range ordering in (Zn and Ni)-doped Sr123 and Cax around x=12 at low T is considered to be similar. Once unpaired spins S 0's are induced and 3D interlayer interaction occurs, the localized spins couple in the whole system.  相似文献
