A modular approach to the synthesis of 1,4,5-substituted-2-aminoimidazoles

Diversified 1,4,5-substituted-2-aminoimidazoles were rapidly assembled via sequential N–H insertion and Grignard addition to α-diazoesters. Lead compounds were identified as antibiotics against Gram-positive bacteria with an MIC value as low as 2 μg/mL.     

Efficient synthesis of the C/D rings of atisine-type C20-diterpenoid alkaloids

A bicyclo[2.2.2]octane C/D ring system,with a lactonic ring at C-8 and C-9,of the atisine-type C₂₀-diterpenoid alkaloids,was successfully synthesized,using an oxidative dearomatization/intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction.     

Synthesis of mikto‐topology star polymer containing one cyclic arm

Well‐defined mikto‐topology star polystyrene composed of one cyclic arm and four linear arms was synthesized by a combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and Cu‐catalyzed azide‐alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) click reaction. First, the bromine‐alkyne α,ω‐linear polystyrenes containing four hydroxyl groups protected with acetone‐based ketal groups were synthesized by ATRP of styrene using a designed initiator. Then, the bromine end‐group was converted to the azide and the linear polystyrene was cyclized intra‐molecularly by the CuAAC reaction. The four hydroxyl groups were released by deprotection and then esterified with 2‐bromoisobutyryl bromide to produce a cyclic polymer bearing four ATRP initiating units. By subsequent ATRP of styrene to grow linear polymers with the cyclic polystyrene as a macroinitiator, the mikto‐topology star polymers were prepared. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cyclopalladated ferrocenylimine as an efficient catalyst for the syntheses of diarylmethane derivatives

The cyclopalladated ferrocenylimine adducts Ia , Ib , Ic were evaluated in the Suzuki cross‐coupling reaction of benzyl halides with arylboronic acids. The tricyclohexylphosphine adduct Ia exhibited highly catalytic activity for the coupling of aryl and heteroaryl boronic acids containing various functional groups with benzylic bromides and chlorides (up to 99% yield), furnishing diarylmethane derivatives with low catalyst loading (1 mol%). It is worth noting that catalyst Ia can be reused eight times without losing its catalytic activity. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
