A method for characterizing and identifying firing patterns of neural spike trains is presented. Three characteristic variables defined at sequential moments, including two formal derivatives and the integration of the counting process, are introduced to reflect the temporal patterns of a spike train. This paper also examines how noise interacts with encoding mechanisms of neuronal stimulus in a cold receptor. From ISI series and bifurcation diagrams it is shown that there are considerable differences in interval distributions and impulse patterns caused by purely deterministic simulations and noisy simulations. The ISI-distance can be used as an effective and powerful way to measure the noise effects on spike trains quantitatively. It is found that spike trains observed in cold receptors can be more strongly affected by noise for low temperatures than for high temperatures in some aspects; meanwhile, spike train has greater variability with the noise intensity increasing.  相似文献

A volume of fluid (VOF) method is developed combining a first‐order limited downwind scheme with higher order accurate schemes. The method is characterized by retaining a sharp fluid interface and a reduction in numerical diffusion near the interface, but avoids complicated geometrical reconstruction as occurs in most volume tracing algorithms. To demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of the method, a selection of numerical experiments are presented involving a pure advection problem, a water wave impact caused by a dam breaking and liquid sloshing in a partially filled tank. An analysis is performed for the unsteady mixed convection flow of an incompressible viscous fluid about a stagnation point on a stretching sheet in the presence of a variable free stream. The equations of motion and energy are transformed into the ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformations. Homotopy analysis method is used for the solution of the governing problem. The results have been discussed by plots. A specific (hybrid) arrangement of variables is discussed to solve reactive compressible Navier–Stokes equations on staggered‐like grids with high‐order finite difference schemes. The objective is to improve the numerical flow solution at boundaries. Hybrid arrangement behaviour is compared with ‘pure’ colocated and staggered strategies. Classical Fourier analysis shows accuracy to be significantly improved in the hybrid case. One‐dimensional laminar flame test demonstrates increased robustness (in terms of mesh resolution), whereas computation of 1D exiting pressure wave propagation gives evidence that the method also improves accuracy in the prediction of non‐reflecting outflows, compared e.g. with the fully staggered scheme of (J. This paper presents an anisotropic mesh adaptation method applied to industrial combustion problems. The method is based on a measure of the distance between two Riemannian metrics called metric non‐conformity. This measure, which can be used to build a cost function to adapt meshes comprising several types of mesh elements, provides the basis for a generic mesh adaptation approach applicable to various types of physical problems governed by partial differential equations. The approach is shown to be applicable to industrial combustion problems, through the specification of a target metric computed as the intersection of several Hessian matrices reconstructed from the main variables of the governing equations. Numerical results show that the approach is cost effective in that it can drastically improve the prediction of temperature and species distributions in the flame region of a combustor while reducing computational cost. The temperature fields and the energy dissipations of shape memory alloys during the stress-induced martensitic transformations are studied theoretically and experimentally. The effect of the loading rate is analyzed. It was found that the temperature field inside a shape memory alloy sample varies strongly in space and time. The increase rate of the temperature is given by the difference between the rate of the latent heat release and the rate of the heat convection and conduction. The notion and the rate dependence of the energy dissipation are discussed in connection with the stress–strain hysteresis, the entropy production, and the Clausius–Duhem inequality.  相似文献
