We demonstrate that free graphene sheet edges can curl back on themselves, reconstructing as nanotubes. This results in lower formation energies than any other nonfunctionalized edge structure reported to date in the literature. We determine the critical tube size and formation barrier and compare with density functional simulations of other edge terminations including a new reconstructed Klein edge. Simulated high resolution electron microscopy images show why such rolled edges may be difficult to detect. Rolled zigzag edges serve as metallic conduction channels, separated from the neighboring bulk graphene by a chain of insulating sp(3)-carbon atoms, and introduce van Hove singularities into the graphene density of states.  相似文献

The decomposition of dimethyl ether (CH3OCH3) has been investigated behind incident shock waves in a diaphragmless shock tube using laser schlieren densitometry, LS (T = 1500–2450 K, P = 57 ± 4, 125 ± 5 and 253 ± 12 Torr). The LS density gradient profiles were simulated and excellent agreement was found between the simulations and experimental profiles. Rate coefficients for CH3OCH3  CH3O + CH3 were obtained. They showed strong fall-off, and at the lower end of the experimental temperature range are close to the low pressure limit. First order rate coefficient expressions were determined over 1500 < T < 2450 K. k57Torr = (3.10 ± 1.0) × 1079T?19.03 exp(?54417/T) s?1, k125Torr = (1.12 ± 0.3) × 1083T?19.94 exp(?55554/T) s?1and k253Torr = (1.02 ± 0.3) × 1073T?17.09 exp(?51500/T) s?1. The effect of a roaming channel for decomposition of dimethyl ether was assessed and the best agreement was obtained with 1% dissociation of DME via the roaming path.  相似文献

The utilization of thermal fluctuations or Johnson/Nyquist noise as a spectroscopic method to determine transport properties in conductors or semiconductors is developed. The autocorrelation function is obtained from power spectral density measurements thus enabling electronic transport property calculation through the Green–Kubo formalism. This experimental approach is distinct from traditional numerical methods such as molecular dynamics simulations, which have been used to extract the autocorrelation function and directly related physics only. This work reports multi-transport property measurements consisting of the electronic relaxation time, resistivity, mobility, diffusion coefficient, electronic contribution to thermal conductivity and Lorenz number from experimental data. Double validation of the experiment was accomplished through the use of a standard reference material and a standard measurement method, i.e. four-probe collinear resistivity technique. Thermal noise measurements resulted in a 1.1 and 5% agreement with the reference material and four-probe values, respectively. Additional measurements were also taken on nanoscale Au and Cu thin films. Specifically, the validated spectroscopic methodology was applied to 30 nm Au and Cu thin films to obtain transport property data that was again compared to four-probe resistivity measurements. Comparative analysis of the resistivity data showed agreement within 13.6 and 4.8% for the Au and Cu samples, respectively, thus lending further credibility to the experimental method and theory.  相似文献

In 1990, Pecora and Carroll reported the observation that one can synchronize the orbits of two identical dynamical systems, which may be chaotic, by feeding state variables of one of them to the other one with no feedback, a phenomenon often called master-slave synchronization. We report here some results on the theory of master-slave synchronization for maps and flows, which are all inspired by a similar geometric and coordinate independent point of view to the one introduced in master-slave synchronization by Tresser, Worfolk, and Bass. Layered nanoscale amorphous solid films of methanol and ethanol undergo complete intermixing prior to the onset of measurable desorption at 120 K. This intermixing precedes and inhibits crystallization. Subsequent desorption of the film is described quantitatively by a kinetic model describing evaporation from a continuously mixed ideal binary liquid solution. This occurs at temperatures below the melting point of the binary mixture, indicating ideal behavior for the supercooled liquid solution. This approach provides a new method for preparing and examining deeply supercooled solutions.  相似文献

Mechanical behaviour of wood considered as an orthotropic solid can be determined with ultrasonic technique. The propagation phenomena in wood are complex and theoretically are regulated by Christoffel's equation. Three type of waves can propagate in wood. During the propagation phenomena three slowness sheets are observed, corresponding to a fast longitudinal wave (inner sheet) and two shear waves, one fast and one slow (outer sheet). These waves are submitted continuously to mode conversion phenomena. The polarization angle changes when the propagation direction is out of the principal directions of symmetry of the material. In this article an analysis of the propagation phenomena in tridimensional representation is performed for different wood species. This approach contributes to the understanding of dynamic aspects of particle displacement associated with the wave fronts propagation. Globally, the anisotropy of each species, expressed by their acoustical behaviour is well represented.  相似文献

An approach to the definition of infinite-volume Gibbs states for the (quenched) random-field Ising model is considered in the case of a Curie-Weiss ferromagnet. It turns out that these states are random quasi-free measures. They are random convex linear combinations of the free product-measures shifted by the corresponding effective mean fields. The conditional self-averaging property of the magnetization related to this randomness is also discussed.This paper is dedicated to Robert A. Minlos on the occasion of his 60th birthday.  相似文献

Previously we reported that Mn(III)tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl) porphyrin, MnTPPS4, is a contrast agent which can effectively enhance tumor detection by MRI. By imaging 30 additional athymic nude mice bearing subcutaneous MCF-7 WT human breast carcinoma xenografts, we have extended dose-contrast relationships over a wide range of intraperitoneal (IP) doses ranging from 0.025 to 0.50 mmol/kg. The benefits of IP injection are higher possible doses on a volume basis and a reduction in toxicity versus IV administration. Full coronal cross-section images have been obtained on a 2-T spectrometer. Although individual tumor masses displayed different distribution patterns, reflective of their internal morphology, single doses of 0.10 mmol/kg or greater were necessary to produce a detectable effect. At a dose of 0.50 mmol/kg, marked enhancement was produced. Multiple small dosages administered over the course of several days before imaging did not produce increased enhancement. Preliminary results on the new porphyrin derivative, MnTPPS3, indicate that the ratio of the toxic dose to the effective dose may be adjustable to render this class of agents clinically useful.  相似文献

It is shown that the Mott insulating and superfluid phases of bosons in an optical lattice may be distinguished by a non-local ‘parity order parameter’ which is directly accessible via single site resolution imaging. In one dimension, the lattice Bose model is dual to a classical interface roughening problem. We use known exact results from the latter to prove that the parity order parameter exhibits long range order in the Mott insulating phase, consistent with recent experiments by Endres et al. [M. Endres, M. Cheneau, T. Fukuhara, C. Weitenberg, P. Schauß, C. Gross, L. Mazza, M.C. Bañuls, L. Pollet, I. Bloch, et al., Science 334 (2011) 200]. In two spatial dimensions, the parity order parameter can be expressed in terms of an equal time Wilson loop of a non-trivial U(1)U(1) gauge theory in 2+12+1 dimensions which exhibits a transition between a Coulomb and a confining phase. The negative logarithm of the parity order parameter obeys a perimeter law in the Mott insulator and is enhanced by a logarithmic factor in the superfluid.  相似文献
