Effect of enhancement of selenium content in zirconium sulphoselenide on its photoelectrochemical behaviour

In this paper, we have attempted to fabricate PEC solar cells with mixed crystals of Zirconium sulphoselenide. Energy band location and redox analysis of the material have been made using Mott-Schottky plots. These studies justify the selection of an appropriate electrolyte for PEC work. Various solar cells fabricated with single crystals of selenium rich and selenium deficient zirconium sulphoselenide have been prepared. The solar cell parameters e.g. the fill factor (FF), open circuit voltage (V_oc), short circuit current (I_sc) and efficiency (η) for all the different cells have been determined. In order to see the effect of enhancement of selenium in ZrS_xSe_2−x on photoresponse, the electrolyte and intensity of illumination were kept constant and all the electrodes were prepared from crystals showing absolutely plane faces obtained through the act of cleavage with the help of an adhesive tape. The results have been thoroughly analysed and the implications have been discussed.     

Non-intrinsic superconductivity in InN epilayers: Role of Indium Oxide

In recent years there have been reports of anomalous electrical resistivity and the presence of superconductivity in semiconducting InN layers. By a careful correlation of the temperature dependence of resistivity and magnetic susceptibility with structural information from high-resolution x-ray diffraction measurements, we show that superconductivity is not intrinsic to InN and is seen only in samples that show traces of oxygen impurity. We hence believe that InN is not intrinsically a superconducting semiconductor.     

Dowex-promoted general synthesis of N,N′-disubstituted-4-aryl-3,4-dihydropyrimidinones using a solvent-free Biginelli condensation protocol

Dowex-50W ion exchange resin-promoted solvent-free heating of an intimate mixture of an aldehyde, an active methylene compound and N,N′-dimethylurea furnished the title compounds in moderate to good yields.     

Weak reciprocal continuity and fixed point theorems

The aim of the present paper is to introduce the notion of weak reciprocal continuity and obtain fixed point theorems by employing the new notion. The new notion is a proper generalization of reciprocal continuity and is applicable to compatible mappings as well as noncompatible mappings. Our results generalize several fixed point theorems.     

A simple hybrid finite volume solver for compressible turbulence

A simple, explicit, hybrid finite volume method for simulating compressible turbulence is developed by combining a fourth‐order central scheme and a shock‐capturing simple low‐dissipation advection upstream splitting method. The total flux on each of the cell faces is computed as a weighted average of central/nondissipative and upwind/dissipative fluxes. The weights are determined using an unphysical oscillation sensor in addition to a more traditional discontinuity sensor used in earlier studies. Shocks are well captured, but overshoots in density are predicted around contact discontinuities that are normal to the flow. The use of the latter sensor effectively prevents these overshoots from generating spurious oscillations that travel away from the contact lines. The efficacy of the proposed method for direct or large‐eddy simulations of supersonic turbulence is established using several canonical test problems. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Lipase catalyzed Cannizzaro-type reaction with substituted benzaldehydes in water

Lipases were found to catalyze Cannizzaro-type reaction of substituted benzaldehydes in aqueous medium at 30 °C without the addition of any external redox reagent. The ratio of alcohol product to acid product varied with nature of the substituted benzaldehyde, enzyme, and the presence of organic co-solvent.     

Synthesis of 2-Benzoyl-3-aryl-N-arylsulphonylaziridines from the Reaction of N-Arylsulphonylimines with Dimethylsulphonium Phenacylide - The First Example of A Functionalized-Methylene Transfer to Azomethines

The first example of phenacyl group transfer from dimethylsulphonium phenacylide to N-arylsulphonylimines to yield 2-benzoyl-1-arylsulphonylaziridines is described.
