Improvement of all-optical switching effect based on azobenzene-containing polymer films

A method for improving the quality of all-optical switching is presented. Pumping poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films doped with azobenzene chromophore Disperse Red 1 (DR1) with two beams (a linearly and a circularly polarized), all-optical switching effects with very low background and high stability are demonstrated. High frequency switching, which is hard to be realized under pump of a single beam, is obtained. The circularly polarized pump beam can erase the photoinduced birefringence and quicken the relaxation process, thus lowering the background and improving the stability and the extinction ratio of the switching signal. Electrically controlled transfer of spin angular momentum of light in an optically active medium

Spin is an intrinsic property of the photon. A method for using an externally applied dc electric field to manipulate the transfer of spin angular momentum of light in an optically active medium is presented. To discuss this, we first develop a wave coupling theory of the mutual action of natural optical activity and the linear electro-optic effect. Besides being used for analyzing the electrically controlled transfer of spin angular momentum of light, the theory can also be used to describe the propagation of light traveling along an arbitrary direction in any optically active medium with an external dc electric field along an arbitrary direction.

Improved optical single-sideband generation using the self-modulation birefringence difference in semiconductor optical amplifiers

By employing the self-modulation birefringence difference in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), an improved method is proposed to generate a complete optical single-sideband (OSSB) signal. Over 30 dB sideband suppression ratios (SSRs) of lower OSSB signals are obtained over a 12 dB input power range and a 36 nm wavelength span, with a maximum of over 35 dB. Upper OSSB signals with an SSR of over 15 dB are observed using a SOA for what is believed to be the first time. This method is effective even for the carrier-suppressed signal. The theory for OSSB generation in an SOA is extended and verified by experiment.

Densification behavior of gas and water atomized 316L stainless steel powder during selective laser melting

The densification during selective laser melting (SLM) process is an important factor determining the final application of SLM-part. In the present work, the densifications under different processing conditions were investigated and the densification mechanisms were elucidated. It was found that the higher laser power, lower scan speed, narrower hatch spacing and thinner layer thickness could enable a much smoother melting surface and consequently a higher densification.The gas atomized powder possessed better densification than water atomized powder, due to the lower oxygen content and higher packing density of gas atomized powder. A large number of regular-shaped pores can be generated at a wider hatch spacing, even if the scanning track is continuous and wetted very well. The densification mechanisms were addressed and the methods for building dense metal parts were also proposed as follows: inhibiting the balling phenomenon, increasing the overlap ratio of scanning tracks and reducing the micro-cracks.     

一种新型温湿度测量系统的设计

为了解决传统温湿度测量系统存在的标定和校准过程复杂而引起的精度不高的问题,文中介绍了一种新型的温湿度测量系统。该系统由瑞士SENSIR ION公司新生产的SHT11数字式温湿度传感器和日本NEC公司生产的78F9177Y单片机为核心组成,具有电路简单、免标定、精度高和可靠性好等优点。     

Left–right asymmetry for pion and kaon production in the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering process

We analyze the left–right asymmetry in the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process without introducing any weighting functions. With the current theoretical understanding, we find that the Sivers effect plays a key role in our analysis. We use the latest parametrization of the Sivers and fragmentation functions to reanalyze the π ^± production process and find that the results are sensitive to the parametrization. We also extend our calculation on the K ^± production, which can help us know more about the Sivers distribution of the sea quarks and the unfavored fragmentation processes. HERMES kinematics with a proton target, COMPASS kinematics with a proton, deuteron, and neutron target (the information on the neutron target can be effectively extracted from the ³He target), and JLab kinematics (both 6 GeV and 12 GeV) with a proton and neutron target are considered in our paper.
