Isoflavonoid glycosides from the rhizomes of Iris germanica

Four isoflavone glycosides were isolated from the rhizomes of Iris germanica. Compounds 1 and 2 are new, while compounds 3 and 4 are known isoflavone glycosides. These compounds were identified as iriskashmirianin 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (1), nigricin 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (2), irilone 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (3) and iridin (4). Their structures were determined with the help of spectroscopic methods.     

Stereoselective synthesis of beta-substituted phenylalanine-beta-phenylisoserine-derived tripeptides using N-cinnamoyl-L-proline as template: synthesis of structural analogues of HIV protease inhibitors

N-Cinnamoyl-L-proline can be used as a template on which beta-substituted phenylalanine and beta-phenylisoserine residues can be synthesized leading to tripeptide derivatives as structural analogues of HIV protease inhibitors.     

Extension of the A1Σ+-X1Σ+ system of7LiH near the dissociation limit

The absorption spectra of⁷LiH have been photographed in the 3,500?2,900 Å region using the second order of a 3.4 M Ebert spectrograph. Observations comprise previously observedA ¹ Σ ⁺-X ¹ Σ ⁺ transitions and several new vibrational bands of this system near the ionisation limit. Rotational and vibrational analysis of these bands (16≦V′≦20) have been carried out and the rotational constants for the upper states have been determined.     

Two new diterpene polyesters from Euphorbia decipiens

Two new myrsinol-type diterpene polyesters 3,5,13,17-tetra-O-acetyl-7-O-benzoyl-15-hydroxymyrsinol (1) and 3,5,13,17-tetra-O-acetyl-7-O-butanoyl-13-hydroxymyrsinol (2), with a tricyclic carbon skeleton have been isolated from Euphorbia decipiens Boiss. & Buhse. The structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was based primarily on HREIMS, EIMS, IR, UV, ID-, and 2D-NMR analyses, including COSY, HMQC, HMBC, and NOESY correlations. Compounds 1 and 2 also showed activity against urease enzyme.     

Cobalt-catalyzed one-pot three-component coupling route to beta-acetamido carbonyl compounds: a general synthetic protocol for gamma-lactams

An efficient improved procedure for the synthesis of beta-acetamido carbonyl compounds is developed by a cobalt(II) chloride-catalyzed three-component coupling protocol. The procedure is also amenable to the synthesis of gamma-lactams by a three-component coupling reaction with use of 2-carbomethoxybenzaldehyde. The beta-acetamido carbonyl compounds derived from 2-carbomethoxybenzaldehyde are useful intermediates as they can be transformed to the corresponding gamma-lactams on treatment with base.     

Paeonins A and B,lipoxygenase inhibiting monoterpene galactosides from Paeonia emodi

Paeonins A and B, new monoterpene galactosides have been isolated from the chloroform-soluble fraction of the roots of Paeonia emodi and showed potent lipoxygenase inhibitory activity. The structures of 1 and 2 have been assigned on the basis of spectral analysis including one- and two-dimensional NMR techniques.     

Evidence for a solid phase of dodecahedral C 20

Evidence is presented for the formation of a solid phase based on the smallest fullerene, C₂₀, in thin diamond-like carbon films deposited by ultraviolet laser ablation from diamond onto nickel substrates at room temperature in the presence of 10^-4 torr of cyclohexane or benzene. Laser desorption mass spectrometry from the films shows the presence of C₂₀, C₂₁ and C₂₂ species, while micro-Raman spectroscopy and electron diffraction from selected particles together with first principle density-functional calculations, indicate a cubic solid with dodecahedral C₂₀ cages as building blocks. Unlike solid C₆₀ and fully protonated C₂₀, which are bound by van der Waals forces, the proposed structure is stabilized by linking of the C₂₀ dodecahedra with bridging carbon atoms at interstitial tetrahedral sites to form a face-centered-cubic lattice with 22 carbon atoms per unit cell. Parallel propagating modes and anomalous spatial damping in the ultra-relativistic electron plasma with arbitrary degeneracy

The dispersion relations of parallel propagating modes(Langmuir mode, right and left handed circular polarized waves) in the weak magnetic field limit |ω-k·v| ? are considered for ultra-relativistic arbitrary degenerate electron plasma. The results are presented in terms of moments of Fermi-Dirac distribution. The increase in the electron equilibrium number density from negative large(weakly degenerate) to positive large(highly degenerate) values of μ/T_e is observed(where μ is the electron chemical potential and T_e is the electron thermal energy). As a result, shifting of the cutoff points in all the real dispersion branches towards the higher values and increasing in the band gap between unmagnetized longitudinal and transverse modes in k-space are examined. Also, the suppression of the weak magnetic field effects in weakly magnetized right handed and left handed circular polarized waves and a decrease in the longitudinal and transverse screening effects are observed in the graphical patterns due to an increase in the equilibrium number density.     

Phosphodiesterase‐Inhibiting Glycosides from Symplocos racemosa

Phytochemical investigation of Symplocos racemosa resulted in the isolation of two new glycosides, symploracemoside ( 1 ) and symplomoside ( 2 ), which are structurally related to the reported benzoylsalireposide ( 3 ) and salireposide ( 4 ). The structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was based primarily on 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR analysis, including COSY, NOESY, HMQC, and HMBC correlations. These glycosides showed inhibitory activity against snake‐venom phosphodiesterase I.
