Novel optical packet switching scheme using OFDM label with one core router and two edge routers

In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel optical packet switching scheme with one core router and two edge routers, in which an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal is generated as a label. In this experiment there are two transmission spans, each span consists of 50-km SMF-28 and an erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier (EDFA) without dispersion management. A 10 Gb/s on-off keying (OOK) optical payload and a 2.5 Gb/s OFDM optical label are generated, encapsulated, and transmitted in the first span. And then old label is replaced by new label, the generated new optical packet after transmission over the second span is detached and detected. The transmission performance of the optical label and payload is experimentally investigated at the ingress router, core router and egress router.     

Effect of uniaxial strain on the structural and magnetic phase transitions in BaFe2As2

We report neutron scattering experiments probing the influence of uniaxial strain on both the magnetic and structural order parameters in the parent iron pnictide compound, BaFe2As2. Our data show that modest strain fields along the in-plane orthorhombic b axis can affect significant changes in phase behavior simultaneous to the removal of structural twinning effects. As a result, we demonstrate in BaFe2As2 samples detwinned via uniaxial strain that the in-plane C4 symmetry is broken by both the structural lattice distortion and long-range spin ordering at temperatures far above the nominal (strain-free) phase transition temperatures. Surprising changes in the magnetic order parameter of this system under relatively small strain fields also suggest the inherent presence of magnetic domains fluctuating above the strain-free ordering temperature in this material.     

Filter-free ultra-wideband doublet pulses generation based on wavelength conversion and fiber dispersion effect

Filter-free ultra-wideband (UWB) doublet pulse generation is experimentally demonstrated in the optical domain based on cross-gain modulation (XGM) in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and UWB-over-fiber technology is implemented by exploiting dispersion-induced pulse broadening effect in single-mode fiber (SMF). In our proposed system, the SOA generates a polarity-inversed Gaussian pulse train with respect to the injected one through the XGM. After a piece of SMF, the bandwidth of polarity-reversed Gaussian pulse broadens due to the induced dispersion. After the combination of the two light waves with a suitable time delay between them, UWB pulse is obtained. The key parameters for UWB pulse, including central frequency, 10 dB bandwidth, as well as fractional bandwidth are experimentally obtained with 8 GHz, 9.9 GHz and 123% respectively. The generated UWB doublet pulse conforms with the UWB definition of Federal Communications Commission (FCC).     

Optical backpropagation for fiber-optic communications using optical phase conjugation at the receiver

A fiber-optic system design with optical backpropagation that uses an optical phase conjugator, high-dispersion fibers, and highly nonlinear fibers is investigated. The proposed technique outperforms the midpoint optical phase conjugation and digital backpropagation with the same step size.     

Biotransformation of salvianolic acid B by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. Cucumerinum and its two degradation routes

Resting cells of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. Cucumerinum (F. oxsporum) were used for the biotransformation of salvianolic acid B (Sal B). Three transformed products, isolithospermic acid, prolithospermic acid and danshensu, were identified on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic data. The stability of the two ester bonds of Sal B was studied and two degradation routes were found. In the biotransformation system, Sal B was transformed into isolithospermic acid first which was then converted into prolithospermic acid. In alkaline solutions, Sal B was transformed into lithospermic acid first which was then converted into prolithospermic acid. This is the first reports of the NMR spectra of isolithospermic acid and this result may indicate the metabolic pathways of Sal B in vivo.     

Ugi reaction-assisted rapid assembly of affinity-based probes against potential protein tyrosine phosphatases

The multi-component Ugi reaction has been employed to assemble a small library of affinity-based probes (AfBPs) that target potential protein tyrosine phosphatases. The probes showed good labelling of PTP1B and MptpB, and were subsequently used to label endogenous PTP1B in MCF-7 cell lysates.     

Unusual microporous polycatenane-like metal-organic frameworks for the luminescent sensing of Ln3+ cations and rapid adsorption of iodine

Two isostructural 2D → 2D parallel → 3D inclined interpenetrating polycatenane-like metal-organic frameworks were successfully constructed based on length-adjusted tricarboxylate ligands. With the merit of being microporous, IFMC-10 can serve as host for encapsulating lanthanide cations and I(2) to exhibit luminescent sensing and rapid adsorption of iodine.     

An unprecedented organic-inorganic hybrid based on the first {Nb10V4O40(OH)2}(12-) clusters and copper cations

An unprecedented organic-inorganic hybrid {[Cu(6)L(6)(H(2)O)(3)][Nb(10)V(4)O(40)(OH)(2)]}(2)·13H(2)O (1) (L = 1,10-phenanthroline) containing the unreported {Nb(10)V(4)O(40)(OH)(2)}(12-) building blocks has been successfully synthesized and its photoluminescent properties, IR spectra, thermogravimetric analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction were investigated.     

Comparative proteomic profiling of mammalian cell lysates using phosphopeptide microarrays

A library of 176 human phosphotyrosine-containing peptides was used to establish cell lysate binding profiles in a two colour microarray format. The resulting hits led to the pull-down and identification of biomarkers associated with cancer states.
