A Convenient Synthetic Entry Into 2,2-Diorganyl-5,6-Diaryl-1,3,4,2-Dioxaza Silacyclohexene Derivatives VIA Dianion Cyclisation: Sequential One-Pot Cyclosylation

In a convenient one-pot sequence, treatment of bezoin and p-anisoin oximes with sodium hydride in dry THF in 1:2 molar ratio generates 1,5-dianion, which upon subsequent addition of diorganodichlorosilane yields 1,3,4,2-dioxazasilacyclohexene derivatives in good yields. In general, very often a salt elimination route is used for the synthesis of the title compounds.     

(S)-(−)-2-Methyl-2-Phenylsuccinic Anhydride,a Novel Resolving Reagent and its Application to Resolution of CIS-5-Amino-4-Phenyl-1,3-DIOXANE

Abstract

A new resolving reagent, (S)-(?)-2-methyl-2-phenylsuccinic anhydride (5) for the resolution of amines via covalent bond formation and its application to the resolution of aminodioxane (±)-(1) is described. The d.e. of the amides (7) and (8) has been determined by studying ¹H-NMR spectra.

Preferential Reactivity of Pyridylmagnesiumchloride with N,N-Dialkyl Arylamides over Carbonitriles: Synthesis of 2-(Aroyl) Pyridines

Reaction of 2-pyridylmagnesium chlorides with N,N-dialkyl arylamides afford exclusively 2-(aroyl) pyridines in high yields and purity without the formation of any tertiary alcohol. This method employs easily available raw materials and avoids the use of hazardous lithium reagents and cryogenic conditions. Further, preferential reactivity of this Grignard reagent with N,N-dialkyl arylamides over its carbonitrile counterparts offers a variety of 2-(aroyl) pyridines including the ones containing carbonitrile groups on the aryl ring.     

Iron(III) Chloride–Promoted Direct Conversion of Aryl/Alkyl Cyanides to Esters

Aryl/alkyl cyanides were quickly converted into the corresponding esters in the presence of iron(III) chloride in refluxing alcohols with very good yields.     

Zinc-Mediated Facile and Efficient Chemoselective S-Alkylation of 5-Aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiols in the Absence of Base

Zinc-mediated facile and efficient chemoselective S-alkylation of 5-aryl 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiols in the presence of a catalytic amount of tetra butyl ammonium iodide was described. The reaction was performed under neutral conditions. The chemoselectivity of the alkylation was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and x-ray crystallography.     

Thermodynamic and Structural Trends in Hexavalent Actinyl Cations: Complexation of Dipicolinic Acid with NpO22+ and PuO22+ in Comparison with UO22+

The complexation of NpO₂²⁺ and PuO₂²⁺ with dipicolinic acid (DPA) has been investigated in 0.1 M NaClO₄ by spectrophotometry, microcalorimetry, and single crystal diffractometry. Formation of 1:1 and 1:2 (metal/ligand molar ratio) complexes of DPA with NpO₂²⁺ and PuO₂²⁺ were identified and the thermodynamic parameters were determined and compared with those of UO₂²⁺. All three hexavalent actinyl cations form strong 1:1 DPA complexes with slightly decreasing but comparable stability constants from UO₂²⁺ to PuO₂²⁺, whereas the stability constants of the 1:2 complexes (log β₂) decrease substantially along the series (16.3 for UO₂L₂^2?, 15.17 for NpO₂L₂^2?, and 14.17 for PuO₂L₂^2? at 25 °C). The enthalpies of complexation for the 1:2 complexes become less exothermic from UO₂L₂^2? (?28.9 kJ mol^?1), through NpO₂L₂^2? (?27.2 kJ mol^?1), and to PuO₂L₂^2? (?22.7 kJ mol^?1). The trends in the thermodynamic parameters are discussed in terms of the effective charge of the cations and the steric constraints in the structures of the complexes. In addition, the features of the absorption spectra, including the wavelength and intensity of the absorption bands, are related to the perturbation of the ligand field and the symmetry of the actinyl complexes.     

The first stereoselective synthesis of dendrodolide A

The first stereoselective total synthesis of natural product, dendrodolide A (1) is described from readily available (R)-propylene oxide and 3-buten-1-ol as starting materials. The synthesis was achieved in 10 steps with an overall yield of 19.1%. The key steps involved in the synthesis are Jacobsen hydrolytic kinetic resolution, epoxide ring opening with 2-allyl-1, 3-dithiane, Yamaguchi esterification, and ring-closing metathesis (RCM).
