Self-Assembly of Alkylammonium Chains on Montmorillonite: Effect of Interlayer Cations,CEC, and Chain Length

Recently, polymeric materials have been filled with synthetic or natural inorganic compounds in order to improve their properties. Especially, polymer clay nanocomposites have attracted both academic and industrial attention. Currently, the structure and physical phenomena of organoclays at molecular level are difficultly explained by existing experimental techniques. In this work, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was executed using the CLAYFF and CHARMM force fields to evaluate the structural properties of organoclay such as basal spacing, interlayer density, energy and the arrangement of alkyl chains in the interlayer spacing. Our results are in good agreement with available experimental or other simulation data. The effects of interlayer cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Ca²⁺), the cation exchange capacity, and the alkyl chain length on the basal spacing and the structural properties are estimated. These simulations are expected to presage the microstructure of organo-montmorillonite and lead relevant engineering applications.     

DBSA-catalyzed hydrolysis of chain α-oxo ketene dithioacetals in water: Aqueous synthesis of β-ketothioesters

In this paper, we wish to report an environment friendly synthetic method for β-ketothioesters from a dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA)-catalyzed hydrolysis reaction of chain α-oxo ketene dithioacetals in water. It was shown that the hydrolysis reaction of chain α-oxo ketene dithioacetals could efficiently occur in the presence of 7.5?mol% DBSA at 100?°C in water, affording the desired β-keto thioesters in excellent yields.     

Recent progress toward the total synthesis of humulanolides

The humulanolides are a series of sesquiterpene lactones, most of which have unique and challenging structure. The humulanolides have exhibited anticancer activity. The combinations of fascinating structural motifs and promising pharmacological properties have prompted significant interest in the synthetic community. In this review, we provide a summary of recent progress regarding the total synthesis of humulanolides.     

One step synthesis of indirubins by reductive coupling of isatins with KBH4

One step synthesis of the natural product indirubin by reductive coupling of isatin with KBH₄ is described and a possible mechanism for the reaction is proposed. Eleven indirubin derivatives were obtained easily from the corresponding substituted isatin.

We described the design and synthesis of a colorimetric and ratiometric fluorescent probe based on a conjugated π-electron system that displayed differential fluorescence responses towards cyanide and sulfide and demonstrated its utility in intracellular ion imaging and logic gate.     

A capillary coated with a metal-organic framework for the capillary electrochromatographic determination of cephalosporins

The authors have developed a rapid and reliable method for the capillary electrochromatographic determination of cephalosporin antibiotics in environmental waters. An open-tubular capillary column was modified with the complex [Cu(mal)(bpy)], a copper(II) complex with malic acid and 4,4′-bipyridyl, by an amide coupling method to act as the stationary phase. The simultaneous determination of the cephalosporins formulations, namely cefapirin (CP), ceftiofur (EFT) and cefixime (CFM) in environmental water samples was accomplished in buffer of pH 5.0 by applying a voltage of 8 kV and with DAD detection. Detection limits typically are 0.1 μg?mL^?1.The method was applied to the analysis of cephalosporins in spiked water samples from Kunming Lake to give recoveries betwen 88 and 106%.

Determination of Protonation Constants of O-Phospho-<Emphasis Type="SmallCaps">l</Emphasis>-serine in Aqueous Solution: Potentiometry,Microcalorimetry, NMR Spectroscopy and Quantum Chemical Calculations

O-Phospho-l-serine is one of the naturally occurring phosphorylated amino acids, having important pharmacological activity and bioactivity. The protonation constants of O-phospho-l-serine were determined by means of potentiometric titrations at 25 °C and ionic strength of 0.5 mol·L^?1 (NaCl). The heat effects of the protonation reaction of the O-phospho-l-serine were measured by direct calorimetry. NMR spectroscopy has demonstrated that the first protonation site occurs at the nitrogen atom in the amino group, followed by one of the oxygen atoms in the phosphono group, and finally the carboxyl oxygen atom. This trend is in good agreement with the enthalpy of protonation and quantum chemical calculations. These data will help to predict the speciation of O-phospho-l-serine in physiological systems.     

Geometry of spacelike generalized constant ratio surfaces in Minkowski 3-space

Generalized constant ratio surfaces are defined by the property that the tangential component of the position vector is a principal direction on the surfaces. In this work, we study these class of surfaces in the 3-dimensional Minkowski space L³. We achieve a complete classification of spacelike generalized constant ratio surfaces in L³.     

Multi-recurrence and van der Waerden systems

We explore recurrence properties arising from dynamical approach to the van der Waerden theorem and similar combinatorial problems. We describe relations between these properties and study their consequences for dynamics. In particular, we present a measure-theoretical analog of a result of Glasner on multi-transitivity of topologically weakly mixing minimal maps. We also obtain a dynamical proof of the existence of a C-set with zero Banach density.
