Supersymmetry breaking for the observable sector in superstring models

We discuss the supersymmetry breaking in four-dimensional supergravity models from superstrings including perturbative or non-perturbative string σ-model corrections. It is found that various soft supersymmetry breaking terms can appear with values of the order ofm _3/2 even at the tree level of effective field theory and of string theory.     

Norm or Numerical Radius Attaining Multilinear Mappings and Polynomials

We study the denseness or norm of numerical radius attainingmultilinear mappings and polynomials between Banach spaces,and examine the relations between norms and numerical radiiof such mappings.     

Pteridines. Part CVI. Isolation and characterization of limipterin (1-O-(L-erythro-biopterin-2′-yl)-β-N-acetylglucosamine) and its 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro derivative from green sulfur bacterium Chlorobium limicola f. thiosulfatophilum NCIB 8327

A new pteridine compound was isolated from green sulfur photosynthetic bacteria, Chlorobium limicola f. thiosulfatophilum NCIB 8327. The structure of this pterin derivative was established to be 1-O-(L -erythro-5,6,7,8- tetrahydropterin-2′-yl)-β-N-acetylglucosamine ( 1 ) from ¹H-NMR and CD spectra as well as from various mass spectrometric techniques and chemical-cleavage techniques. Upon acid hydrolysis of 1 , equimolar amounts of biopterin ( 2 ) and N-acetylglucosamine were produced. The structure of the hydrolysis product 2 was confirmed by comparing its NMR, UV, CD, and MS and its chromatographical behavior with those of an authentic specimen. N-Acetylglucosamine was identified by an enzymatic hydrolysis experiment as well as by NMR and thin layer chromatography. Electrospray (ES), fast-atom-bombardment (FAB), and thermospray (TS) mass spectrometry of 1 yielded an MH⁺ at m/z 441. Periodate-oxidation experiments of the intact molecule 1 and of its hydrolysis product 2 are consistent with the proposed structure. Differential I₂ oxidation experiments with the native compound showed that the in vivo oxidation state of this pterin is its tetrahydro form. We propose the trivial name ‘limipterin’ for this new compound.     

The electronic properties of [CH(FeCl4)0.061]x

The temperature dependence of d.c. conductivity, thermopower and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) results on [CH(FeCl₄)_0.061]_x are reported. The d.c. conductivity and thermopower measurements indicate metallic charge transport along the polyacetylene chain interrupted by the interfibril contact resistances and also ‘dragged’ primarily by the dopant ions. The initial measurements of EPR show Dysonian lineshape with very broad linewidth (ΔH ≈ 600 G at room temperature). The temperature dependence of EPR absorption intensity implies that there exist localized magnetic moments. The observed g value (g ≈ 2.03) suggests the dopant anion is in a form of (FeCl₄)^-.     

Effect of polymerization catalysts on the microstructure of P(LLA-co-εCL)

The copolymerization of L ,L -lactide and ε-caprolactone was carried out using antimony trioxide and stannous octoate as catalysts. The effect of polymerization catalysts on the physical and the chemical microstructures of this copolymer was investigated by ¹³C NMR and DSC analysis. Antimony trioxide causes more random sequence distribution within the copolymer chain due to its higher transesterification characteristic than stannous octoate. The copolymer samples made with the antimony trioxide catalyst seem to have more amorphous phase structure, than those prepared using stannous octoate which are semicrystalline for the entire compositional range due to blocky copolymer sequences. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
