In earthquakes it is known that waves of one type starting from the origin inside the earth produce waves of other types after impact at the free surface of the earth. A theoretical discussion is given here dealing with reflection and refraction of waves which have their amplitudes increasing with depth similar in nature to the initial diverging earthquake waves which after reflection produce the apparent surface waves in which the displacement decreases with depth. In one case it has been found that at a free surface a plane wave of SV type, travelling parallel to the surface, is capable of generating surface waves after internal reflection which under a certain state of attenuation are identical with the Rayleigh Waves.  相似文献

Students often learn procedures for measuring, but rarely do they grapple with the foundational conceptual problem of generating and validating coordination between a measure and the phenomenon being measured. Coordinating measures with phenomenon involves developing an appreciation of the objects and relations in each as well as establishing their mutual correspondence. We supported students?? developing conceptions of statistics by positioning them to design measures of center and of variability for distributions that they had generated through repeated measure of a length. After students invented and explored the viability of their measures individually, they participated in a public (whole-class conversation) forum featuring justification and reflection about the viability of their designed measures. We illustrate how individual invention enticed students to attend to, and to make explicit, characteristics of distribution not initially noticed or known only tacitly. Conceptions of statistics and of relevant characteristics of distribution were further expanded as students justified and argued about the utility and prospective generalization of particular inventions. Teachers supported student learning by highlighting prospective relations between characteristics of measures and characteristics of distribution as they emerged during the course of activity in each setting.  相似文献

The effect of one and two monolayers of ZnS shells on the photostability of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) in aqueous and nonaqueous media has been studied by monitoring the fluorescence behavior of the QDs under ensemble and single‐molecule conditions. ZnS capping of the CdTe QDs leads to significant enhancement of the fluorescence brightness of these QDs. Considerable enhancement of the photostability of the shell‐protected QDs, including the suppression of photoactivation, is also observed. Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy measurements reveal an increase in the number of particles undergoing reversible fluorescent on–off transitions in the volume under observation with increasing excitation power; this effect is found to be more pronounced in the case of core‐only QDs than for core–shell QDs.  相似文献

The lead(II) ion is regarded as a serious environmental contaminant. A considerable need exists to develop selective ligands for remediation of this metal ion. Herein, the coordination chemistry of lead(II) is investigated with three O,S donor ligands: thiomaltol, 3-hydroxy-1-methyl-2(1H)-pyridinethione (3,2-HOPTO), and 3-hydroxy-1,2-dimethyl-4(1H)-pyridinethione (3,4-HOPTO). The X-ray structures of [Pb(thiomaltolato)(2)] and [Pb(3,4-HOPTO)(2)] have been solved, revealing the expected 4-coordinate geometries. Electronic spectra have been obtained for the lead(II) complexes with all three ligands. Preliminary solution studies show that the thiomaltol ligand binds lead(II) preferentially over magnesium(II) and calcium(II); however, [Pb(thiomaltolato)(2)] is not stable in the presence of 1 equiv of EDTA. Tetradentate ligands derived from these O,S chelators are expected to generate higher affinity ligands for lead(II) sequestration.  相似文献

PSYCOSY is an f1 broadband homonuclear decoupled version of the COSY nuclear magnetic resonance pulse sequence. Here, we investigate by a combination of experimental measurements, spatially distributed spin dynamics simulations, and analytical predictions the coherence evolution delay necessary in PSYCOSY experiments to ensure intensity discrimination in favour of the correlations typically arising from short range (nJ, n ≤ 3) 1H–1H couplings and show that, in general, a coherence evolution delay of around 35 ms is optimum.  相似文献

The synthesis, structure, and spectroscopic characterization of a series of phenylacetylenylene rodlike molecules containing dipyrromethene (dipyrrin) ligands are described. The combination of the phenylacetylenylene groups with the porphyrinogenic dipyrrin moieties results in a rich absorption spectroscopy for these compounds, although the fluorescence of the phenylacetylenylene moiety is quenched by presence of the dipyrrin chelator. The Cu(2+) and Fe(3+) complexes of these ligands have been prepared and three of these compounds have been structurally characterized by using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Unlike other octahedral metal-dipyrrin complexes described to date, one of the iron complexes demonstrates ideal threefold symmetry in the solid-state. The elongated structure and high symmetry of these complexes suggests the use of these meso-substituted phenylacetylenylene ligands as an interesting class of extended, branched molecules for the construction of supramolecular architectures.  相似文献

Heteroleptic copper(II) complexes were synthesized from three different meso-substituted pyridyl- and quinoline-dipyrrinato ligands (3-pyrdpm, 3-quindpm, and 4-quindpm). Metal complexes were prepared with both acetylacetonate (acac) and hexafluoroacetylactonate (hfacac) ancillary ligands. The complexes undergo a self-complementary self-assembly process upon crystallization to generate a range of solid-state topologies including one-dimensional coordination polymers and discrete hexameric rings. The self-assembly of these molecular aggregates is driven by metal-ligand bonding, but is also modulated by fluorine-fluorine interactions. Perfluorination of the spectator ligand tends to generate more compact structures, which is attributed to aggregation of the perfluoromethyl groups. The results presented here demonstrate that fluorine-fluorine contacts can be used to modulate supramolecular structures in the solid state.  相似文献

Four-coordinate dichlorocopper(II) complexes derived from di(2-pyridyl)methanes or pyridine itself exhibit high catalytic activity in aziridination of regular olefins with PhINTs in weakly coordinating chloroform in the presence of 1-2 equiv of NaBArF4 (BArF4- = tetra[3,5-di(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate). High yields of aziridines exceeding 90% can be obtained with a 1:1 olefin/PhINTs ratio and 1-5 mol % catalyst loading for such reactive olefins as styrene, tri- and tetramethylethylene. For cis-cyclooctene, indene, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, vinyl methyl ketone, tert-butylethylene, and neopentylethylene, as well as for 1-hexene and cyclopentene, yields of corresponding aziridines vary from 44% to 83%. The catalytic activity and efficiency of the reported copper complexes decrease moderately in the absence of NaBArF4.  相似文献

Using of data collected with the CLEO-c detector, we report on first observations and measurements of Cabibbo-suppressed decays of D mesons in the following six decay modes: pi+ pi- pi0 pi0, pi+ pi+ pi- pi- pi0, pi+ pi0 pi0, pi+ pi+ pi- pi0, eta pi0, and omega pi+ pi-. Improved branching fraction measurements in eight other multipion decay modes are also presented. The measured D --> pi pi rates allow us to extract the ratio of isospin amplitudes A(DeltaI = (3/2) / A(DeltaI = (1/2)) = 0.420 +/- 0.014(stat) +/- 0.016(syst) and the strong phase shift of delta1 = (86.4 +/- 2.8 +/- 3.3) degrees, which is quite large and now more precisely determined.  相似文献
