Rings associated with hyperbolic groups

Abstract We define quasiconvexity cone Qcone(τ) over an infinite hyperbolic (in the sense of Gromov) group τ as the set of conjugacy classes of infinite quasiconvex subgroups H?τ and show that the abelian group of Qcone(τ)-divisors, i.e. finite sums of points from Qcone(τ) with integer coefficients, can be equipped with a natural structure of commutative associative ring with identity. Euler characteristic can be considered as a rational-valued function on Qcone(τ). This approach gives another point of view on the strengthened form of Hanna Neumann's conjecture on the maximal rank of the intersection of two finitely generated subgroups of the free group on two generators.     

Nonlinear-optical and structural properties of nanocrystalline silicon carbide films

The aim of this study is to investigate the nonlinearity of refraction in nanostructured silicon carbide films depending on their structural features (synthesis conditions for such films, substrate temperature during their deposition, concentration of the crystalline phase in the film, Si/C ratio of atomic concentrations in the film, and size of SiC nanocrystals formed in the film). The corresponding dependences are obtained, as well as the values of nonlinear-optical third-order susceptibility χ⁽³⁾(ω; ω, −ω, ω) for various silicon polytypes (3C, 21R, and 27R) which exceed the value of χ⁽³⁾ in bulk silicon carbide single crystals by four orders of magnitude.     

Vibronic Structures of the Ground and Excited Singlet Electronic States of Dimethylnaphthalenes Cooled in a Supersonic Jet

Abstract

Fluorescence excitation and dispersed fluorescence spectra of jet-cooled naphthalene and 2,6-, 2,7-dimethylnaphthalenes have been measured. The frequencies of optical active vibrations in the ground and first excited singlet states have been determined. The new technique for calculation of planar vibration frequencies of polycyclic benzenoid hydrocarbons in the excited electronic states has been developed. The vibration frequencies in the ground and first excited singlet states of these molecules were calculated using the developed technique and the Ohno's model. The interpretation of vibronic spectral lines based on the comparison of the calculated and experimental data was made. The calculation rms errors for the vibration frequencies in the ground electronic states of the investigated molecules do not exceed 20 cm^?1 and are approximately 1.5 times higher for excited states without additional adjustment of parameters for individual molecules.     

Energy and angular distributions of deuterons from the D + D → p + n + d reaction

The energy and angular distributions of deuterons from the D + D → p + n + d reaction are experimentally and theoretically studied. The experiment is conducted on the U-240 cyclotron at the Institute for Nuclear Research in an extracted beam of deuterons with energy E _D = 36.9 MeV. A theoretical analysis has been performed using the microscopic diffraction nuclear model, within which the final-state interaction is considered and simple expressions for internal wave functions and approximations that include quasibinary mechanisms are employed.
