Abstract We analyze the efficiency of the international management of the Bay of Biscay anchovy. While a sharing agreement between France and Spain has been in place since 1992, the fish stock collapsed in 2005 and the fishery closed from 2005 to spring 2010. We consider differences in production technologies between both countries and calibrate our model using data from 1987 to 2009. Our results suggest two sources of rent dissipation under the existing sharing agreement: inefficient quota allocation and production inefficiencies due to inflexible national regulations. Using the concept of insulator-based "electrodeless" dielectrophoresis, we present a novel geometry for shaping electric fields to achieve lateral deviation of particles in liquid flows. The field is generated by lateral planar metal electrodes and is guided along access channels to the active area in the main channel. The equipotential surfaces at the apertures of the access channels behave as vertical "liquid" electrodes injecting the current into the main channel. The field between a pair of adjacent liquid electrodes generates the lateral dielectrophoretic force necessary for particle manipulation. We use this force for high-speed deviation of particles. By adding a second pair of liquid electrodes, we focus a particle stream. The position of the focused stream can be swept across the channel by adjusting the ratio of the voltages applied to the two pairs. Based on conformal mapping, we provide an analytical model for estimating the potential at the liquid electrodes and the field distribution in the main channel. We show that the simulated particle trajectories agree with observations. Finally, we show that the model can be used to optimize the device geometry in different applications. 相似文献

Identification of putative biomarker molecules within the genus Corydalis (Papaveraceae) was pursued by combining conventional off-line sample enrichment with high-performance liquid chromatography-solid phase extraction-nuclear magnetic resonance (HPLC-SPE-NMR) based structure elucidation. Off-line reversed phase solid phase extraction (SPE) was used to enrich the desired analytes from a methanolic extract (93 mg dry weight) of a miniscule single tuber (233 mg dry weight) of C. solida. An aliquot of the SPE fraction (2.1 mg) was subjected to separation in the HPLC-SPE-NMR hyphenation. Chromatographic peaks bearing the metabolites under investigation were trapped in the SPE device in a single experiment and transferred to a 600 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped with a 30 microl cryofit insert fed into a 3 mm cryoprobe. Recorded homo- and heteronuclear 1D and 2D NMR data allowed the identification of the three analytes under investigation as protopine, allocryptopine, and N-methyl-laudanidinium acetate. A newly developed interface coupling a CHN combustion device (elemental analyser 'EA') to an isotope ratio mass spectrometer is described and evaluated. The purpose of the device is to extend the dynamic range of delta(13)C and delta(15)N analysis from less than 2 orders of magnitude to more than 3 orders of magnitude. Carbon isotope ratio measurements of atropine as a model compound have been performed analysing between 1 μg to 5 mg C with acceptable to excellent precision (0.6 to 0.06 per thousand, delta-notation). The correction due to the blank signal is critical for sample amounts smaller than 4 μg C. The maximum sample weight is determined by the combustion capacity of the EA. Larger sample amounts are measured using dilution of a small part of the EA effluent with helium. The dilution mechanism works virtually free of isotope fractionation. A novel high yield isolation procedure for lipophilic cyclic peptide derivatives is presented. Destruxin (dtx) A, B, D, E, and E-diol retrieval from Metarhizium anisopliae culture broth was achieved with a three-step purification protocol. After liquid-liquid extraction column chromatography over Sephadex LH-20 served as enrichment step. High-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) was used for the final purification. Within the first chromatographic step dtx D and dtx E-diol were separated in purities exceeding 90%. The separation of dtx A, B, and E was achieved from an enriched Sephadex LH-20 fraction by a HSCCC protocol using light petroleum-ethyl acetate-methanol-water = 2:5:2:5 (v/v) as eluent system. These derivatives were obtained in purities above 98% and total yields exceeding 40%. 相似文献

A Nd:YVO4 laser was locked with a chirped volume Bragg grating to achieve single-longitudinal-mode output. Tuning was performed from 1,063 to 1,065?nm by translating the grating and a maximum output power of 4?W was obtained. With a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber, Q-switched pulses with 4?ns and a pulse energy of 5.7???J were achieved which could be frequency doubled in PPKTP with a conversion efficiency exceeding 50?%. 相似文献

Dielectric spectroscopy in a micromachined flow cytometer: theoretical and practical considerations 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
We propose a model to determine the influence of different cell properties, such as size, membrane capacitance and cytoplasm conductivity, on the impedance spectrum as measured in a microfabricated cytometer. A dielectric sphere of equivalent complex permittivity is used as a simplified model to describe a biological cell. The measurement takes place between a pair of facing microelectrodes in a microchannel filled with a saline solution. The model incorporates various cell parameters, such as dielectric properties, size and position in the channel. A 3D finite element model is used to evaluate the magnitude of the electric field in the channel and the resultant changes in charge densities at the measurement electrode boundaries as a cell flows past. The charge density is integrated on the electrode surface to determine the displacement current and the channel impedance for the computed frequency range. The complete impedance model combines the finite element model, the electrode-electrolyte interface impedance and stray impedance, which are measured from a real device. The modeled dielectric complex spectra for various cell parameters are discussed and a measurement strategy for cell discrimination with such a system is proposed.
