DFT study of Pt adsorption on low index SrTiO3 surfaces: SrTiO3(1 0 0), SrTiO3(1 1 1) and SrTiO3(1 1 0)

Density Functional Theory has been used to determine the energetically preferred structures of submonolayer, monolayer, and multilayer Pt films on both ideal terminations of SrTiO₃(1 0 0), SrTiO₃(1 1 1), and SrTiO₃(1 1 0). The strength of the resulting metal/metal oxide interfaces was characterized by the adsorption energy of the film and the film’s work of separation. The two polar surfaces, SrTiO₃(1 1 1) and SrTiO₃(1 1 0), form significantly stronger interfaces than the non-polar SrTiO₃(1 0 0) surface. Approximate criteria were applied to predict the growth mode of Pt on each surface.

Colloidal gold probe based rapid immunochromatographic strip assay for cortisol

A rapid and semi-quantitative immunochromatographic strip (ICS) test for cortisol analysis in serum was developed. The test strip was based on a competitive assay format. Colloidal gold nanoparticles were synthesized and coupled with cortisol-3-carboxymethyloxime-adipic acid dihydrazide-bovine serum albumin (F-3-CMO-ADH-BSA) antigen to directly compete with cortisol in human serum samples. F-3-CMO-ADH-BSA-gold label and uncoupled colloidal gold nanoparticles were appropriately characterized using UV-vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Anticortisol antibody raised against F-3-CMO-BSA immunogen in New Zealand white rabbits was coated on the NC membrane as test line. Anti-BSA antibody was used as control line. The lower detection limit of the ICS test was 30 ngmL(-1) with visual detection and was completed in 10 min. About 30 human serum samples were also analyzed by the developed strip test and their range of cortisol concentration was established. The developed ICS test is rapid, economic and user friendly.     

Strategic utilization of catalytic metathesis and photo-thermal metathesis in caged polycyclic frames

Highly functionalized cage compounds have been prepared via cross-metathesis (CM) using Grubbs modified N-tolyl catalyst 7. A strategic utilization of photo-thermal metathesis and catalytic metathesis sequence for the synthesis of functionalized caged molecules has been demonstrated.     

Novel ‘Nano in Nano’ Composites for Sustained Drug Delivery: Biodegradable Nanoparticles Encapsulated into Nanofiber Non‐Wovens

Novel ‘nano in nano’ composites consisting of biodegradable polymer nanoparticles incorporated into polymer nanofibers may efficiently modulate drug delivery. This is shown here using a combination of model compound‐loaded biodegradable nanoparticles encapsulated in electrospun fibers. The dye coumarin 6 is used as model compound for a drug in order to simulate drug release from loaded poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) nanoparticles. Dye release from the nanoparticles occurs immediately in aqueous solution. Dye‐loaded nanoparticles which are encapsulated by electrospun polymer nanofibers display a significantly retarded release.

     

A new synthetic pathway of Sr2CeO4 phosphor and its characterization

A blue-white emitting Sr₂CeO₄ phosphor was synthesized via a simple sol-gel poly vinyl alcohol (PVA)-complexing process using strontium nitrate and cerium nitrate as raw materials. The samples were characterized by TG/DTA, XRD, FTIR, SEM and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction study confirms the structure of the system to be orthorhombic. The emission spectra when excited at 267 nm peaks at ∼470 nm. The emission band is assigned to the energy transfer between the molecular orbital of the ligand and charge transfer state of the Ce⁴⁺ ion. The Commission International de l'Eclairage (CIE) co-ordinates for the Sr₂CeO₄ sample were also calculated.     

An unusual bioactive oleanane triterpenoid from Rhododendron campanulatum D.Don

An unusual oleanane triterpene(1) was isolated from aerial parts of Rhododendron campanulatum.The compound had shown prominent antibacterial and immunomodulatory activities.The structure of the compound was determined by spectroscopic data including 1D and 2D NMR spectral analysis.     

Attenuation Characteristics and Sensitivity Analysis for Coplanar Waveguide

The behaviour of attenuation losses in Coplanar waveguides (CPW) is studied for quasi-planar transmission lines with constant characteristic impedance (Z₀) and resistivity, having different geometry's. This behavior helps in making a suitable choice of the type of structure and its dimensional parameters depending upon the application. Minimization of loss for a chosen substrate thickness, conductivity and impedance is analyzed. Dispersion characteristics of CPW have been plotted for various metallization thicknesses. A sensitivity analysis for effective dielectric constant with respect to various dimensional parameters of CPW is presented.     

Evaluation of thermodynamic functions for complexation reactions involving bivalent metal ions and ethyl-2,3-dioxobutyrate-2 p -bromophenylhydrazone

Complexation reactions of bivalent metal ions and ethyl-2,3-dioxobutyrate-2p-bromophenylhydrazone (EDOB-2p-BPH) have been studied potentiometrically in 50% (v/v) ethanol/water medium at different ionic strengths with respect to NaClO₄ and at different temperatures and their stability constants determined. The method of Bjerrum and Calvin as modified by Irving and Rossotti has been used to determine then andpL values. S_min values which have the same significance as ‘T²’ have also been calculated. The thermodynamic stability constants and standard free energy change (ΔG) have also been calculated. ΔG values are negative in all cases indicating that the reactions are spontaneous. The ligand field stabilization energy (δH) has also been calculated for the 3d transition metals.
