Application of high-performance liquid chromatography of some antibiotics in clinical microbiology

During recent years high-performance liquid chromatography has become an excellent tool for the determination of antibiotics in biological fluids. Compared with biological assays, the major benefits of this method are specificity and rapidity. In particular, the determination of biologically inactive metabolites emphasizes that this technique plays an outstanding role for the analysis of antibiotics. This paper describes how the method can be used in the analysis of several antibiotics and demonstrates the efficacy of this method for clinical microbiology. Methods for the determination in biological fluids of acylaminopenicillins (azlocillin, mezlocillin, piperacillin and aspoxicillin), quinolones (ciprofloxacine, norfloxacine and ofloxacine), a penem (imipenem) and a cephalosporin (cefixime) are summarized. Furthermore, their application to in vitro studies and their trial in clinical studies are described.

Als Ausgleichsbedingung kann sowohl die kleinste Summe der Quadrate der absoluten, wie auch der relativen Fehler benützt werden. Das Programm wurde in FORTRAN IV für die UNIVAC-490 des Rechenzentrums Graz erstellt

Syntheses of heterocycles CXLIII: A synthesis of oxazolo-[3.2-a]quinolines

Substituted 3.4-dihydro-carbostyriles react with oxalyl chloride to give the corresponding oxazolo[3.2-a]quinolines1–3, while monosubstituted malonyl chlorides yield N-acylated carbostyrils.

     

Weak decays of heavy mesons in the instantaneous Bethe Salpeter approach

In the framework of the instantaneous Bethe Salpeter equation we investigate weak decays ofB andD mesons. Mesons are described asq $\bar q$ states interacting via a mixture of a scalar and a vector confining kernel and a one gluon exchange. The model parameters are fixed by a fit to the meson mass spectrum including also the light mesons. We calculate form factors and compare our results to the pole dominance hypothesis. From a fit to ARGUS and CLEO data onB→D ^*?v semileptonic decay we extract the Cabbibo Kobayashi Maskawa matrix element to beV _cb =(0.032 ± 0.003)(1.49ps/τ _b )^1/2 The Isgur Wise function is calculated utilizing the heavy quark mass limit. Finally, we give some results on nonleptonic decays.     

Thermodynamic properties of the spin-Peierls transition in CuGeO3

We present an investigation of the spin-Peierls transition atT _SP=14.5 K in polycrystalline CuGeO₃ through specific-heat and thermal-expansion measurements. Clear second-order phase-transition anomalies are found in both properties atT _SP, although only a small entropy of S0.1 Rn2 is released at the transition. Most of the entropy is released atT _SP<T<150 K, where the temperature dependence of the magnetic contribution to the specific heat as well as the thermal expansion exhibit extrema atT ^*40 K. These are caused by one-dimensional antiferromagnetic fluctuations along the Cu chains, possibly accompanied by structural fluctuations. Using Ehrenfest's relation, a hydrostatic pressure coefficient (T _SP/_p)_p0 (0.45±0.06) K/kbar is derived.

It is the aim of the present work to prove, under appropriate conditions, lower estimates for the dimension of w ₁ + ... + w _m over , wherew ₁,...,w _m are given real numbers. In particular, if this dimension ism, i.e. ifw ₁,...,w _m are linearly independent over , we are also interested in a quantitative version of this fact. Our qualitative theorems generalize a result of Nesterenko. Its formulation is quite similar to the axiomatization of methods for algebraic independence, as it became usual during the last decade.
