Nonameric porphyrin assemblies--formation and intra-assembly energy transfer reactions

The nonameric porphyrin assemblies constructed with the series of free base tetraphenylporphyrins Pn having four pyrazine moieties linked with alkyl chains of different lengths, (CH2)n (n = 1, 5, 9, 17, 30), and dimeric [meso-tetrakis(2-carboxy-4-nonylphenyl)porphyrinato]zinc(II), ZnP2, show the effective light-collection effect and the typical Forster-type energy transfer from ZnP2 to Pn.     

A highly efficient asymmetric Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction catalyzed by cationic chiral palladium(ii) complexes

Cationic chiral palladium(ii) complexes are shown to catalyze the asymmetric coupling reaction of aryl boronates and aryl halides within a short period of time in good yield and enantioselectivity.     

Preparation and lithium doping of gallium oxynitride by ammonia nitridation via a citrate precursor route

Gallium oxynitride, isostructural to hexagonal gallium nitride (h-GaN), was obtained by ammonia nitridation of a precursor prepared from the addition of citric acid to an aqueous solution of gallium nitrate. Gallium oxynitride produced at 750 °C had a small amount of gallium vacancies, and was formulated as (Ga_0.89□_0.11) (N_0.66O_0.34) where the symbol □ stands for gallium vacancy. Both the gallium vacancies and oxygen substituted for nitrogen were randomly distributed within the structure. The amount of vacancies decreased with nitridation temperatures in the range of 750-850 °C. Approximately, 10 at% Li⁺ was doped into the gallium oxynitride, using a similar preparation with the additional presence of lithium nitrate, resulted in the random substitution of Ga³⁺ in an atomic ratio of Li/Ga<1 at 750 °C. Oxygen was codoped with lithium and substituted nitrogen in the wurtzite-type crystal lattice. These substitutions reduced the electrical conductivity in the gallium oxynitride semiconductor. A new oxynitride, Li₂Ga₃NO₄, was also obtained with Li₂CN₂ impurity using similar preparations from a mixture of Li/Ga?1. The crystal structure was isostructural with h-GaN, and was refined as P6₃mc with a=0.31674(1) nm, and c=0.50854(2) nm. The Ga and Li occupancies at the 2b site were refined to be 0.6085 and 0.3915, respectively, assuming that the other 2b site was randomly occupied with 1/5O and 4/5N. When the new compound was washed for over 1 min for the removal of Li₂CN₂ impurities, it was decomposed to a mixture of α-GaOOH and α-LiGaO₂. The as-prepared product with Li/Ga=1 showed the highest intensity in yellow luminescence among the products under excitation at 254 nm.     

Copper(II)-catalyzed oxidation of d-alpha-tocopherol by oxygen in aqueous solution

alpha-Tocopherol (alpha-Toc) was solubilized in aqueous solutions using 13 solubilizing agents and the products of oxidation by oxygen in the presence and the absence of Cu(II) were analyzed by HPLC. In the presence of Cu(II), the oxidation was accelerated and 5-formyl-7,8-dimethyltocol and alpha-tocoquinone were the major oxidation products. Their yields greatly increased in the presence of Cu(II). The yields and the rates of formation of the products were dependent on the properties of solubilizing agents and other conditions as well as the presence of Cu(II) or other metal ions. It is suggested that slight changes in the structure of the solubilizing agents affect the course of the reaction.     

Structure Revision of Caesalpinistas A and B and Isolation of a New Furanoditerpenoid from the Cotyledons of Caesalpinia decapetala var. japonica

A known cassane‐type furanoditerpenoid, caesalpinista B ( 1 ), and a new diterpenoid, deoxycaesaljaponin A ( 2 ), were isolated from the cotyledons of Caesalpinia decapetala var. japonica. The previously reported configurational assignments of 1 and the related diterpenoid caesalpinista A ( 3 ) were revised on the basis of X‐ray crystallography and chemical conversion. The structure of 2 was elucidated by spectroscopic data and chemical conversion into 3 .     

Structure activity relationships of quinoxalin-2-one derivatives as platelet-derived growth factor-beta receptor (PDGFbeta R) inhibitors, derived from molecular modeling

We previously reported a quinoxalin-2-one compound (Compound 1) that had inhibitory activity equivalent to existing platelet-derived growth factor-beta receptor (PDGFbeta R) inhibitors. Lead optimization of Compound 1 to increase its activity and selectivity, using structural information regarding PDGFbeta R-ligand interactions, is urgently needed. Here we present models of the PDGFbeta R kinase domain complexed with quinoxalin-2-one derivatives. The models were constructed using comparative modeling, molecular dynamics (MD) and ligand docking. In particular, conformations derived from MD, and ligand binding site information presented by alpha-spheres in the pre-docking processing, allowed us to identify optimal protein structures for docking of target ligands. By carrying out molecular modeling and MD of PDGFbeta R in its inactive state, we obtained two structural models having good Compound 1 binding potentials. In order to distinguish the optimal candidate, we evaluated the structural activity relationships (SAR) between the ligand-binding free energies and inhibitory activity values (IC50 values) for available quinoxalin-2-one derivatives. Consequently, a final model with a high SAR was identified. This model included a molecular interaction between the hydrophobic pocket behind the ATP binding site and the substitution region of the quinoxalin-2-one derivatives. These findings should prove useful in lead optimization of quinoxalin-2-one derivatives as PDGFb R inhibitors.     

Rhodium-catalyzed allyl transfer from homoallyl alcohols to aldehydes via retro-allylation followed by isomerization into ketones

Retro-allylation of homoallyl alcohol by rhodium catalysis occurs to generate allylrhodium species. This allylrhodium reacts with aldehydes to give the corresponding secondary alcohols in situ. Isomerization of these alcohols proceeds in the same pots to furnish the corresponding saturated ketones in good yields. [reaction: see text]
