Using a Bostick Gun as a plasma source, we have been investigating the effects of a moving plasma front on the frequency of an incident R.F. signal. We have been able to measure frequency shifts of 10 MHz frequency with a 2.6 GHz signal. The density is such that the plasma frequency is well above the transmitter frequency 1.3 meters from the plasma source. No magnetic field is used. 相似文献

It is shown that for a large class of potentials on the line with superquadratic growth at infinity and with the additional time-periodic dependence all possible motions under the influence of such potentials are bounded for all time and that most (in a precise sense) motions are in fact quasiperiodic. The class of potentials includes, as very particular examples, the exponential, polynomial and much more. This extends earlier results and gives an answer to a problem posed by Littlewood in the mid 1960's. Lamb wave tomography of pipe-like structures 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Lamb waves are guided ultrasonic plate waves that can follow the curvature of pipe-like structures. By transmitting and receiving many helically propagating Lamb waves via longitudinal transducers in contact with the surface of a pipe, crosshole tomographic geometries can be mimicked and tomographic reconstructions performed in order to locate and size flaws. We describe here a meridional-array scheme which mimics a single line of transducers along the exterior surface of the pipe in the axial direction, and show proof of concept results on a pipe sample with an internal wall-thinning. We also demonstrate improved reconstructions for the other helical ultrasound tomography geometry where the transmitters and receivers lie along parallel circumferential rings. We find frequency compounding smoothes out some of the noise and artifacts that appear in the reconstructions. 相似文献

A spatially closed universe undergoing at present accelerated expansion, having a non-vanishing cosmological constant, and filled with luminous- and dark matter is described in terms of the Integrable Weyl–Dirac theory. It is shown that, during the dust-dominated period, dark matter and the quintessence pressure, the latter giving rise to acceleration: both are created by the Dirac gauge function. The behavior of two models: a nearly flat one and a well closed are considered in appropriate gauges, and plausible scenarios are obtained. The outcome of the present paper, together with results of a previous work,(31) provide a geometrically based, classical, singularity-free model of the universe, that has originated from a pure geometric Weyl–Dirac entity, passed a prematter period, the radiation-dominated era, and continues its development in the present dust period. 相似文献

We present the first polytope volume formulas for the multiplicities of affine fusion, the fusion in Wess–Zumino–Witten conformal field theories, for example. Thus, we characterise fusion multiplicities as discretised volumes of certain convex polytopes, and write them explicitly as multiple sums measuring those volumes. We focus on su(2), but discuss higher-point (
) and higher-genus fusion in a general way. The method follows that of our previous work on tensor product multiplicities, and so is based on the concepts of generalised Berenstein–Zelevinsky diagrams, and virtual couplings. As a by-product, we also determine necessary and sufficient conditions for non-vanishing higher-point fusion multiplicities. In the limit of large level, these inequalities reduce to very simple non-vanishing conditions for the corresponding tensor product multiplicities.
