Free Field Construction for the ABF Models in Regime II

The Wakimoto construction for the quantum affine algebra U $_q$ ( $(\widehat{\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}_2 })$ ) admits a reduction to the q-deformed parafermion algebras. We interpret the latter theory as a free field realization of the Andrews–Baxter–Forrester models in regime II. We give multi-particle form factors of some local operators on the lattice and compute their scaling limit, where the models are described by a massive field theory with $\mathbb{Z}$ $_k$ symmetric minimal scattering matrices.     

Measurement Accuracy in Phase-Shifting Point Diffraction Interferometer with Two Optical Fibers

A phase-shifting point diffraction interferometer (PS/PDI) with point sources of two single mode optical fibers has been developed, which will be appropriate for the surface figure measurement of large aperture optics on a sub-nanometer scale. To reduce the measurement error factors, a fiber optic plate (FOP) is used as a projection plane for interference pattern. Errors caused by imperfection of optical alignment, such as position of point sources and tilt of FOP, are minimized by analyzing the measured phase data with an original method. Measurement accuracy in the PS/ PDI is estimated with the interference pattern produced by the two optical fiber sources. If inhomogeneity of the FOP and a systematic error of the PS/PDI are eliminated, the measurement accuracy of the present system is estimated to be less than 4nm P-V and 0.7nm rms, respectively, at a measurement wavelength of 632.8 nm.     

Electronic structure of substitutional nitrogen impurity in TiO 2 studied by the β-NMR method

In order to study the local electronic structure of nitrogen impurity in rutile TiO₂, we have measured double-quantum NMR spectra of short lived β-emitter ¹²N(I = 1, T _1/2 = 11 ms) implanted into a rutile single crystal by means of the β-NMR technique. The resonance line obtained at room temperature is well accounted for by the second order shift due to the quadrupole interaction at the oxygen substitutional site. The spectrum at 25 K has shown the other lines than the central diamagnetic line shifted by 10?15 kHz to both sides, which has been already shown in the previous data obtained with a different crystal orientation and an external field. The present results supports the existence of a paramagnetic state formed by the substitutional nitrogen impurities.     

Annealing effect on performance and morphology of photovoltaic devices based on poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)

Novel block copolymers, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) (P3HT‐b‐PEO) were synthesized via Suzuki coupling reaction of P3HT and PEO homopolymers. The copolymers were characterized by NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimeter, and UV–vis measurements. A series of devices based on the block copolymers with a fullerene derivative were evaluated after thermal or solvent annealing. The device using P3HT‐b‐PEO showed higher efficiency than using P3HT blend after thermal annealing. Phase‐separated structures in the thin films of block copolymer blends were investigated by atomic force microscopy to clarify the relationship between morphologies constructed by annealing and the device performance. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Peumusolide A, unprecedented NES non-antagonistic inhibitor for nuclear export of MEK

A new polyketide peumusolide A was disclosed as an unprecedented NES non-antagonistic inhibitor for nuclear export of MEK, a promising scaffold for antitumor agents with novel mechanism of action, from Peumus boldus Molina. The absolute stereostructure as well as optical purity was established by use of the two synthesized enantiomeric model lactones. In addition, the Δε values in their CD spectra were demonstrated to be the conclusive index for determination of not only configuration at C-3 but also optical purity of natural congeneric polyketides. Peumusolide A was revealed to show NES non-antagonistic action by the biotinylated probe and to inhibit proliferation of MEK-activated tumor cells selectively.     

Index minimization of differential-algebraic equations in hybrid analysis for circuit simulation

Modern modeling approaches for circuit analysis lead to differential-algebraic equations (DAEs). The index of a DAE is a measure of the degree of numerical difficulty. In general, the higher the index is, the more difficult it is to solve the DAE. The index of the DAE arising from the modified nodal analysis (MNA) is determined uniquely by the structure of the circuit. Instead, we consider a broader class of analysis method called the hybrid analysis. For linear time-invariant electric circuits, we devise a combinatorial algorithm for finding an optimal hybrid analysis in which the index of the DAE to be solved attains the minimum. The optimal hybrid analysis often results in a DAE with lower index than MNA.
