On the Cauchy problem for the general relativistic perfect magnetofluid

This paper aims at the study of the Cauchy problem for the general relativistic perfect magnetofluid. The consistency and uniqueness condition to be satisfied on the hypersurface by three unknown quantities in the magnetohydrodynamic field equations is obtained. For unit magnetic permeability the result agrees in form with that of Lichnerowicz.     

Separation and determination of copper in steel and alloy

Summary Selective separation of copper(II) from iron, cobalt, nickel, zinc, cadmium and vanadium is achieved by liquid-liquid extraction with TOA either from HCl or HBr media. The method is shown to be applicable to alloys.

Zusammenfassung Die selektive Abtrennung des Kupfers von Eisen, Kobalt, Nickel, Zink, Cadmium und Vanadin erzielt man durch Flüssig-flüssig-Extraktion mit Trioktylamin aus salzsaurem oder bromwasserstoffsaurem Medium. Das Verfahren ist auch für Legierungen verwendbar.

Synergistic extraction of tetravalent actinides by mixtures of a β-diketone and a sulfoxide

Synergistic extraction of tetravalent actinides, using mixtures of a β-diketone and several neutral organophosphorous extractants, was recently demonstrated. In this work the extraction of the ions Th(IV), Np(IV) and Pu(IV), from perchloric acid medium, by benzene solutions of a β-diketone, thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA), in combination with a neutral organosulfoxide donor, di-n-octyl sulfoxide (DOSO), has been investigated. Two methods viz. the slope analysis method and JOB's method have been employed for the study. The species mainly responsible for the observed synergism, with the M(IV) ions studied, was found to be M(TTA)₄·DOSO. The extraction and adduct formation equilibrium constants are given.     

A convenient and efficient route for the allylation of aromatic amines and alpha-aryl aldehydes with alkynes in the presence of a Pd(0)/PhCOOH combined catalyst system

The allylation of aromatic amines with alkynes proceeded smoothly in the presence of catalytic amounts of Pd(PPh(3))(4) and benzoic acid. The allylation products were obtained in high yields in a regio- and stereoselective manner. The effect of various groups on the nitrogen atom of anilines was studied. Regardless of the substituent (electron withdrawing or electron donating) on the aromatic ring, the reaction proceeded well. Various functionalities, including -CH(3), -OMe, -Cl, -CN, -COOMe, -NO(2) and -COCH(3) were tolerated under the reaction conditions. Similarly, the allylation of alpha-aryl aldehydes proceeded well with the same level of regio- and stereoselectivity as the allylation of aromatic amines. This reaction provides the second example of the transition metal catalyzed direct alpha-allylation of aldehydes.
