Increase in the specific surface area as well as Brownian motion are supposed to be the most significant reasons for the anomalous enhancement in thermal conductivity of nanofluids. This work presents a semi-empirical approach for the same by emphasizing the above two effects through micro-convection. A new way of modeling thermal conductivity of nanofluids has been explored which is found to agree excellently with a wide range of experimental data obtained by the present authors as well as the data published in literature  相似文献

After more than a century of research on resorcin[4]arenes (1) it is clear that such systems form spontaneously [1(6)(H(2)O)(8)]-type hexameric capsules in wet, non-polar, organic solvents. However, the interactions of these hexameric capsules with alcohols are far from being solved. Here we provide the results of an extensive study on the interaction of different alcohols with the hexameric capsules of resorcin[4]arene 1a by focusing on the exchange of magnetization manifested in diffusion NMR measurements of such capsular systems. We found that some alcohols such as 2-octyl-1-dodecanol and 1-octadecanol do not interact with the hexamers of 1a, whereas other alcohols such as 3-ethyl-3-pentanol, 2-ethyl-1-butanol and more act as simple guests and are simply encapsulated in the hexamers. Others alcohols such as 3-pentanol, 2-methyl-1-butanol and others, are part of the hexameric structure where they can exchange magnetization with alcohols in the bulk. The bulkier alcohols, due to an increase of the chain length or in branching, have a higher tendency to be encapsulated rather than being part of the hexameric capsule superstructure. This study demonstrate the unique information that diffusion NMR spectroscopy can provide on supramolecular systems in solution and on the precaution that should be exercised when analyzing diffusion NMR data of such dynamic supramolecular capsules.  相似文献

The mechanism of photoinactivation of Candida albicans by 3.5 μM uncharged, cationic or anionic porphyrins under blue light (407-420 nm) was found to be dependent on the uptake of porphyrins into yeast cells, and was also dependent on the presence or absence of proteins in the photosensitization medium. In a very protein-rich medium, a decrease in viability was observed only with the uncharged porphyrin. Photoinactivation by uncharged or cationic porphyrins in a protein-poorer medium resulted in total eradication, whereas no significant decrease was observed with the anionic porphyrin. Phototreatment in PBS resulted in eradication with all three porphyrins. X-ray microanalysis after phototreatment by the uncharged or cationic porphyrins in the protein-poor medium exhibited ion loss, indicating cell-membrane damage. Transmission electron microscopy indicated cellular and chromosomal damage. No ion loss or cell damage was observed in this medium with the anionic porphyrin. The efficiency of photoeradication of C. albicans is dependent on porphyrin uptake, which might lead (upon illumination) to processes that facilitate the formation of reactive oxygen species that damage the cells. Uptake of charged porphyrins is dependent on protein quantity and quality in the photosensitization microenvironment. This fact must be taken into account when using charged photosensitizers.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to study the effect of tube inclination on nucleate pool boiling heat transfer for different tube diameters and surface roughness values. The results show that as the tube is tilted from the vertical to the horizontal, the temperatures at the top and bottom (with respect to circumference) increase and decrease, respectively. The increase and decrease is such that they almost compensate for each other, resulting in very little variation of the average heat transfer coefficient with tube inclination. The increase in bubble sliding length at the bottom wall and decrease in bubble sliding length at the top wall are thought to be the reasons for this behaviour. Experiments have been conducted with water, ethanol and acetone at atmospheric pressure, to confirm similar effects of inclination irrespective of fluid property.  相似文献

It is known that correlations in an arrival stream offered to a single-server queue profoundly affect mean waiting times as compared to a corresponding renewal stream offered to the same server. Nonetheless, this paper uses appropriately constructed GI/G/1 models to create viable approximations for queues with correlated arrivals. The constructed renewal arrival process, called PMRS (Peakedness Matched Renewal Stream), preserves the peakedness of the original stream and its arrival rate; furthermore, the squared coefficient of variation of the constructed PMRS equals the index of dispersion of the original stream. Accordingly, the GI/G/1 approximation is termed PMRQ (Peakedness Matched Renewal Queue). To test the efficacy of the PMRQ approximation, we employed a simple variant of the TES+ process as the autocorrelated arrival stream, and simulated the corresponding TES +/G/1 queue for several service distributions and traffic intensities. Extensive experimentation showed that the proposed PMRQ approximations produced mean waiting times that compared favorably with simulation results of the original systems. Markov-modulated Poisson process (MMPP) is also discussed as a special case.  相似文献
