A reagent is developed for increasing the sensitivity of the direct o-toluidine procedure for glucose so that the reaction may be carried out at temperatures as low as 37 °C.The sensitivity is achieved by eliminating all water from the system, except for a minute percentage introduced with the samples and by using a high boric acid concentration. Under these conditions protein does not precipitate and lipids remain dissolved. At 55 °C, interference from bilirubin at a concentration of 20 mg/100 ml is 3.5%.Blood may be collected with sodium fluoride since it does not interfere in the procedure. The rate of color development is slower for aqueous standards than it is for serum at the lower temperatures. This may be corrected by preparing the standards in a 6% albumin solution.Results obtained by applying the reagent with the continuous flow system of analysis (Technicon), and with the discrete sample analyzers, Beckman DSA, Lars Jungberg Autolab (Sweden), Robot Chemist, and RaBA (Japan) are reported.The reagent is useful as a spray reagent for sugar identification on thin-layer chromatography plates. Heating at different temperatures permits the differentiation between certain sugars with similar Rf values.  相似文献

Titanates are versatile in the 1,4 polymerization of isoprene. The (R′O)4Ti/RAlCl2 catalyst gives either cis- or trans-1,4-polyisoprene, depending on the nature of both the titanate and the solvent. Primary titanates give cis-1,4-polyisoprene in both aliphatic and aromatic solvents. Secondary titanates give cis-polyisoprene in aliphatic solvents, and trans-1,4-polyisoprene in aromatic solvents. Tertiary titanates give trans-polyisoprene in both aliphatic and aromatic solvents. A mechanism is postulated which takes into consideration the role of the solvent. ESR studies of the various titanate–RAlCl2 catalysts were made; the paramagnetic structures are related to polymerization mechanisms.  相似文献

We have investigated the nucleation and growth of sodium chloride in both single quiescent charged droplets and charged droplet populations that were levitated in an electrodynamic levitation trap (EDLT). In both cases, the magnitude of a droplet's net excess charge (ions(DNEC)) influenced NaCl nucleation and growth, albeit in different capacities. We have termed the phenomenon ion-induced nucleation in solution. For single quiescent levitated droplets, an increase in ions(DNEC) resulted in a significant promotion of NaCl nucleation, as determined by the number of crystals observed. For levitated droplet populations, a change in NaCl crystal habit, from regular cubic shapes to dome-shaped dendrites, was observed once a surface charge density threshold of -9 x 10(-4) e.nm(-2) was surpassed. Although promotion of NaCl nucleation was observed for droplet population experiments, this can be attributed in part to the increased rate of solvent evaporation observed for levitated droplet populations having a high net charge. Promotion of nucleation was also observed for two organic acids, 2,4,6-trihydroxyacetophenone monohydrate (THAP) and alpha-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid (CHCA). These results are of direct relevance to processes that occur in both soft-ionization techniques for mass spectrometry and to a variety of industrial processes. To this end, we have demonstrated the use of ion-induced nucleation in solution to form ammonium nitrate particles from levitated droplets to be used in in vitro toxicology studies of ambient particle types.  相似文献

A key bottleneck in the profiling of lipids is the multistep derivatization required prior to gas chromatography (GC) analysis. A single in-vial lipid derivatization and analysis may significantly minimize sample loss and improve analytical sensitivity. A cotton fiber-supported poly(glycidylmethacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) polymer microbrush microreactor loaded with Candida antarctica lipase B was developed for the facile conversion of triacylglycerols into fatty acid ethyl ester derivatives for gas chromatograph–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis. The polymer microbrush microreactor was fabricated in effort to provide efficient, simplified, cost effective, and high-throughput GC–MS determination of triacylglycerols. The polymer microbrush microreactor was used as an in-vial triacylglycerol transesterification platform, with economical sample consumption of less than or equal to 100?µL and significant reduction of reagents. To evaluate the polymer microbrush microreactor performance for lipids, a triolein standard and camelina oil triacylglycerols were quantitatively transformed into ethyl oleate and fatty acid ethyl esters, respectively, following a 3?h reaction time. The lipase-loaded cotton fiber-supported poly(glycidylmethacrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) polymer microbrush microreactors were reusable for up to five times for quantitative transesterification with minimal loss of lipase activity.  相似文献

A simple one-step procedure for derivatization of the omega hydroxy fatty acids 20-hydroxyeicotetraeonic acid and 12-hydroxylauric acid is presented. The procedure involves acylation of the terminal hydroxy group and esterification of the carboxylic acid with a mixture of pentafluoropropionic anhydride and pentafluoropropanol. Positive and negative ion spectra for the derivatives are presented. The procedure was used to demonstrate conversion of arachidonic acid to 20-hydroxyeicosatetraeonic acid and lauric acid to 12-hydroxylauric acid in kidney microsomal incubations. The reaction appears to be specific, since derivatives of subterminal fatty acids (secondary alcohols) could not be detected.  相似文献

Processability remains a fundamental issue for the implementation of conducting polymer technology. A simple synthetic route towards processable precursors to conducting polymers (main chain and side chain) was developed using commercially available materials. These soluble precursor systems were converted to conjugated polymers electrochemically in aqueous media, offering a cheaper and greener method of processing. Oxidative conversion in aqueous and organic media each produced equivalent electrochromics. The precursor method enhances the yield of the electrochromic polymer obtained over that of electrodeposition, and it relies on a less corruptible electrolyte bath. However, electrochemical conversion of the precursor polymers often relies on organic salts and solvents. The ability to achieve oxidative conversion in brine offers a less costly and a more environmentally friendly processing step. It is also beneficial for biological applications. The electrochromics obtained herein were evaluated for electronic, spectral, and morphological properties.  相似文献

This work elaborates upon two robust models of gradient elasticity and gradient plasticity, and one gradient model of heat transfer, as originally advocated by the second author in the 1980’s. The objective is, after recalling the links between these models and existing generalized continuum theories as developed in the 1960’s and subsequently, to apply the same methodology to the case of diffusion with a view to establishing generalized transport equations. Aifantis double diffusivity and conductivity theory that provides generalized mass or heat transfer equations is compared to micromorphic-type hyper-temperature and micro-entropy proposals. The double temperature and the micromorphic thermal models are shown to lead to equations more general that Cattaneo’s. The sign of the coefficient of the second time-derivative of temperature is found to differ according to both approaches. The double temperature model contains a fourth space derivative term not present in the micromorphic models. Such generalized equations can be useful, for example, in the interpretation of recent femtosecond laser experiments on metals.  相似文献
