Analysis of the oxidative modification of proteins by means of fluorescence and elastic scattering

The fluorescence of pure tryptophan and tryptophan residues in albumin is studied at an excitation wavelength of 288 nm. The range of wavelength registration is 280–380 nm. A broad fluorescence band at 350–355 nm and an elastic scattering line at 288 nm are observed in the spectrum measured at 90° relative to the primary beam. The fluorescence of pure tryptophan and tryptophan in albumin is greatly reduced under the impact of the plasma radiation of a spark discharge, while the elastic scattering peak remains unchanged within the limits of error. A comparison of the elastic scattering and fluorescence indicates that tryptophan loses its inherent property to fluoresce under an external influence. The structure of the other tryptophan levels remains unchanged.

     

Properties of epoxy polymers cured with polyoxypropylene diamine

The results of investigations of epoxy polymers cured with polyoxypropylene diamine D-230 depending on the molecular weight of epoxide oligomer, the content of the curing agent, active diluents, and plasticizers are presented. It is shown that epoxy polymers cured with polyoxypropylene diamine are characterized by a rather high complex of physicomechanical and adhesion properties.     

Characterization of free radicals from vitamin K1 and menadione by 2 mm-band EPR,ENDOR and ESEEM

The anion and cation radicals of vitamin K₁ and its analog menadione were characterized using the magnetic resonance techniques of Electron Nuclear Double Resonance (ENDOR), Electron Spin Echo Envelope Modulation (ESEEM), and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) at X-band and 2 mm-band. Theg-factor anisotropy of the radicals at 2 mm-band allow them to be distinguished from each other in the solid state. Theg-factor matrix of the radical anion of vitamin K₁ is virtually identical with that reported for the reduced A₁ acceptor in green plant photosystem I thus demonstrating that reduced A₁ is the anion radical of vitamin K₁.     

Drag reduction in riblet-lined pipes

The possibilities of reducing the drag in pipes with a circular cross section by lining them with riblets have been investigated experimentally for developed turbulent air flow. The maximum drag reduction of 6–7% in the riblet-lined as compared with the smooth pipe was obtained for a dimensionless riblet pitch, expressed in law-of-the-wall parameters,s ⁺=14–18.Moscow. Peculiarities of dislocation structure at surface of deformed crystals

An experimental study of the distribution of edge and screw dislocation components in deformed LiF crystals at external surface parallel to Burgers vector of mobile dislocations was performed. At the surface we observed a layer with low density of edge and screw dislocations compared to the dislocation density in the bulk. The thickness of this layer was tens of microns. The experimental results are explained on the basis of analysis of dislocation structure evolution at surface layers during the plastic deformation.
