The redissolution of water-insoluble polyion-surfactant ion complexes by added excess of surfactant has systematically been investigated in experimental and theoretical phase equilibrium studies. A number of stoichiometric polyion-surfactant ion "complex salts" were synthesized and they consisted of akyltrimethylammonium surfactant ions of two different alkyl chain lengths (C(12)TA(+) and C(16)TA(+)) combined with homopolyions of polyacrylate of two different lengths (PA(-)(25) and PA(-)(6000)) or copolyions of acrylate and the slightly hydrophobic nonionic comonomers N-isopropylacrylamide (PA(-)-co-NIPAM) or N,N-dimethylacrylamide (PA(-)-co-DAM). The complex salts were mixed with water and excess alkyltrimethylammonium surfactant with either bromide or acetate counterions (C(n)TABr or C(n)TAAc). Factors promoting efficient redissolution were (i) very short polyions, (ii) a large fraction of NIPAM or DAM comonomers, and (iii) acetate, rather than bromide, as the surfactant counterion. Added C(12)TAAc gave an efficient redissolution of C(12)TAPA(25) but virtually no redissolution of C(12)TAPA(6000). A very efficient redissolution by added C(12)TAAc was obtained for PA(-)-co-NIPAM with 82 mol % of NIPAM. The C(12)TAPA-co-NIPAM/C(12)TAAc/H(2)O ternary phase diagram closely resembled the corresponding diagram for the much-studied pair cationic hydroxyethyl cellulose-(sodium) dodecyl sulfate. The simple Flory-Huggins theory adopted for polyelectrolyte systems successfully reproduced the main features of the experimental phase diagrams for the homopolyion systems, including the effect of the surfactant counterion. The efficient redissolution found for certain copolyion systems was explained by the formation of soluble polyion-surfactant ion complexes carrying an excess of surfactant ions through an additional hydrophobic attraction.  相似文献

Bertini’s theorem on variable singular pointsmay fail in positive characteristic, as was discovered by Zariski in 1944. In fact, he found fibrations by nonsmooth curves. In this work we continue to classify this phenomenon in characteristic three by constructing the first example, rising in the literature, of fibrations with more than one nonsmooth point. Our approach has been motivated by the close relation between it and the theory of regular but nonsmooth curves, or equivalently, nonconservative function fields in one variable. In analogy to the Kodaira-Néron classification of special fibers of minimal fibrations by elliptic curves, we also construct the minimal proper regular model of some fibrations by nonsmooth projective plane quartic curves and determine the structure of the bad fibers.  相似文献

On the tube : The coupling of diazonium ions onto single‐walled carbon nanotubes is shown to proceed through a radical chain reaction by kinetic analysis of the absorption peak drop (see picture). Radical species are also revealed by ESR. Metallic (m) nanotubes play a special catalytic role in the functionalization of semiconducting (sc) nanotubes.

Electron microscopy has proven to be a reliable and essential tool to determine morphological alterations and target organelles in the investigation of new drugs for Chagas disease. In this review, we focused on evaluating different agents that induce death of Trypanosoma cruzi, i.e. lysophospholipids analogues, naphthoquinones and derivatives, cytoskeletal inhibitors and natural products. Apoptosis-like presents as morphological characteristics DNA fragmentation, membrane blebbing and apoptotic body formation. Autophagy involves autophagosome formation, with the appearance of membranes surrounding organelles and cytosolic structures. Necrosis causes the loss of osmotic balance, an increase of cytoplasmic vacuolization and plasma membrane disruption. Mitochondrion appears as a central checkpoint in both apoptosis and necrosis. Our evidences of ultrastructural changes to T. cruzi treated with the different classes of compounds point to dramatic mitochondrial alterations and similar autophagic phenotypes. Lysophospholipid analogues interfere in the lipid biosynthesis in epimastigotes, altering the amount of both phospholipids and sterols, and consequently the physical properties of the membrane. Naphthoquinone derivatives led to a strong DNA fragmentation in trypomastigotes and to the release of cysteine proteases from reservosomes to cytosol in epimastigotes, starting a proteolytic process which results in parasite death. The susceptibility of reservosomes was also observed in parasites treated with propolis, suggesting impairment of lipid metabolism, compromising membrane fluidity and leading to lysis. The cytoskeletal agents blocked mitosis of epimastigotes, arresting cell cycle and impairing the parasite proliferation. The variety of drug stimuli converge to the same pathway of death suggests an intense cross-talking between the three types of PCD in the protozoa.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) laser, using a high final energy of 4.8 J, during muscle regeneration after cryoinjury. Thirty Wistar rats were divided into three groups: Control (C, n = 10); Injured (I, n = 10) and Injured and laser treated (Injured/LLLT, n = 10). The cryoinjury was induced in the central region of the tibialis anterior muscle (TA). The applications of the laser (904 nm, 50 mW average power) were initiated 24 h after injury, at energy density of 69 J cm?1 for 48 s, for 5 days, to two points of the lesion. Twenty‐four hours after the final application, the TA muscle was removed and frozen in liquid nitrogen to assess the general muscle morphology and the gene expression of TNF‐α, TGF‐β, MyoD, and Myogenin. The Injured/LLLT group presented a higher number of regenerating fibers and fewer degenerating fibers (P < 0.05) without changes in the collagen remodeling. In addition, the Injured/LLLT group presented a significant decrease in the expression of TNF‐α and myogenin compared to the injured group (P < 0.05). The results suggest that the GaAs laser, using a high final energy after cryoinjury, promotes muscle recovery without changing the collagen remodeling in the muscle extracellular matrix.  相似文献

Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) is ubiquitously distributed in the environment, being considered the most phototoxic element among polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAHs). In presence of oxygen, PAHs can act as a photosensitizer by means of promoting photo-oxidation of biological molecules (photodynamic action, PDA). Thus, the present study analyzed the photodynamic action of BaP under UVA irradiation (BaP + UVA) and its oxidative effects on K562 cells. The evaluation of BaP kinetics showed that the highest intracellular concentration occurred after 18 h of incubation. Cell viability, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, lipid peroxidation, DNA damage (breaks and DNA-protein cross-link [DNAPC]) were assessed after exposure to BaP, UVA and BaP plus UVA irradiation (BaP + UVA). Cell viability was decreased just after exposure to BaP + UVA. Lipid peroxidation and DNA breaks increased after BaP + UVA exposure, while the DNAPC increased after BaP, UVA and BaP + UVA exposure, suggesting that BaP + UVA effects were a consequence of both type II (producing mainly singlet oxygen) and type I (producing others ROS) mechanisms of PDA.  相似文献

The layer-by-layer buildup of chitosan/hyaluronan (CH/HA) and poly(l-lysine)/hyaluronan (PLL/HA) multilayers was followed on a quartz crystal resonator (QCR) in different ionic strengths and at different temperatures. These polyelectrolytes were chosen to demonstrate the method whereby useful information is retrieved from acoustically thick polymer layers during their buildup. Surface acoustic impedance recorded in these measurements gives a single or double spiral when plotted in the complex plane. The shape of this spiral depends on the viscoelasticity of the layer material and regularity of the growth process. The polymer layer is assumed to consist of one or two zones. A mathematical model was devised to represent the separation of the layer to two zones with different viscoelastic properties. Viscoelastic quantities of the layer material and the mode and parameters of the growth process were acquired by fitting a spiral to the experimental data. In all the cases the growth process was mainly exponential as a function of deposition cycles, the growth exponent being between 0.250 and 0.275.  相似文献

The miscibility of poly(4-hydroxystyrene-co-methoxystyrene) (HSMS) and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). HSMS/PCL blends were found to be miscible in the whole composition range by detecting only a glass transition temperature (Tg), for each composition, which could be closely described by the Fox rule. The crystallinity of PCL in the blends was dependent on the Tg of the amorphous phase. The greater the HSMS content in the blends, the lower the crystallinity. The polymer–polymer interaction parameter, χ32, was calculated from melting point depression of PCL using the Nishi-Wang equation. The negative value of χ32 obtained for HSMS/PCL blends has been compared with the value of χ32 for poly(4-hydroxystyrene) (P4HS)/PCL blends. The specific nature, quantitative analysis, and average strength of the intermolecular interactions in HSMS/PCL and P4HS/PCL blends have been determined at room temperature and in the molten state by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) measurements. We report on the screening of different enzymes such as arylamidases, lipases, proteinases, and glucosidases in plant extracts of the Cactaceae family, genus Opuntia, as well as on a newly purified plant proteases from O. ficus-indica fruit extracts. These proteinases showed the maximum activity at pH 5.2 and 55°C and FTC-casein was the best of the escreened substrates. Proteolytic activities were activated by anti-oxidant compounds and by some divalent cations. These proteinases were efficiently inhibited by cystein proteinase inhibitors and by 1,10-phenanth roline. The estimated M t for the main proteolytic activity was about 23.2 kDa. The results on milk clotting characteristics suggest a potential use of the fruit cystein enzymes of this plant in dairy industries.  相似文献
