Synthesis, interface (Au/M2Pc2/p-Si), electrochemical and electrocatalytic properties of novel ball-type phthalocyanines

The phthalodinitrile derivative (3) was prepared by the reaction of 4,4'-(octahydro-4,7-methano-5H-inden-5-ylidene)bisphenol (1) and 4-nitrophthalonitrile (2) with dry DMF as the solvent in the presence of the base K(2)CO(3) by the method of nucleophilic substitution of an activated nitro group in an aromatic ring. The template reaction of 3 with the corresponding metal salts gave the novel bi-nuclear ball-type metallophthalocyanines, MPcs {M = Co (4), Cu (5), Zn (6)}. Newly synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, UV-vis, FT-IR (ATR), MALDI-TOF mass and (1)H-NMR spectroscopy techniques. The electronic spectra exhibit an intense π→π* transition of characteristic Q and B bands of the Pc core. The dielectric properties and interface between the spin coated films of 4-6 and a p-type silicon substrate have been studied by fabricating metal-insulator-semiconductor capacitors. The results indicated that the frequency dependence of the dielectric permittivity, ε'(ω), exhibits non-Debye type relaxation for all the temperatures investigated. The ac conductivity results indicated that the conduction mechanism can be explained by a hopping model at low temperatures (<430 K) and a free band conduction mechanism at high temperatures (≥430 K). The density of interface state calculations on these novel compounds showed that the combination of Au/4/p-Si is a promising structure with a high dielectric constant and a low interface trap density suitable for metal-oxide-semiconductor devices. The electrochemical properties of the Pc complexes were examined by cyclic voltammetry, differential voltammetry and controlled potential coulometry on platinum in non-aqueous media. The complexes showed ring-based and/or metal-based mixed-valence behaviours as a result of the remarkable interaction between the two Pc rings and/or metal centres. The mixed-valence splitting values for the complexes suggested that the mixed valence species are considerably stable. The Vulcan XC-72(VC)/Nafion(Nf)/4 modified glassy carbon electrode showed much a higher catalytic performance towards oxygen reduction than those of VC/Nf/5 and VC/Nf/6 modified ones.     

Chirality in diarylether heptanoids: synthesis of myricatomentogenin, jugcathanin, and congeners

The syntheses of myricatomentogenin, jugcathanin, galeon, pterocarine, and acerogenin L are reported. Synthetic material was used to measure their optical activities and free energy of activation for racemization. The natural enantiomers of myricatomentogenin, jugcathanin, galeon, and pterocarine were determined to have the same pR absolute stereochemistry. Acerogenins L and C are achiral compounds.     

Synthesis, characterization, and electrical, electrochemical and gas sensing properties of a novel ball-type four t-butylcalix[4]arene bridged binuclear zinc(II) phthalocyanine

1,3 dimethoxy-4-t-butylcalix[4]arene has been used to synthesize a novel ball-type dimeric zinc(II) phthalocyanine, [Zn2Pc2(tbca)4] that exhibits mixed-valence behaviour and non-Arrhenius type dependence of conductivity.     

Synthesis,characterization and mass spectral studies on acrocyclic schiff base complexes of Pb(II), Zn(II) and La(III)

Six new macrocyclic complexes were synthesized by template reaction of (±)-1,4-bis(3-aminopropoxy)butane with metal(II) nitrate and 1,10-bis(2-formylphenyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraoxadecane or 1,7-bis(2-formylphenyl)-1,4,7-trioxaheptane and their structures were proposed on the basis of elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, molar conductivity measurements, ¹H NMR and mass spectra. The metals to ligand molar ratios of the complexes were found to be 1: 1. The complexes are 1: 2 electrolytes for Pb(II) and Zn(II) complexes and 1: 3 electrolytes for La(III) as shown by their molar conductivities (Λ_m) in DMSO at 10⁻³ mol L⁻¹. Due to the existence of free ions in these complexes, such complexes are electrically conductive. The configurations of La(III) and Zn(II) complexes were proposed to probably octahedral.     

p<Emphasis Type="Italic">K</Emphasis><Subscript>a</Subscript> Determinations for Montelukast Sodium and Levodropropizine

The pK _a constants and relative abundances of unionized and ionized forms of Montelukast sodium {the sodium salt of 2-[1-[[(1R)-1-[3-[2-(7-chloroquinolin-2-yl)ethenyl] phenyl]-3-[2-(2-hydroxypropan-2-yl)phenyl]propyl]sulfanylmethyl]cyclopropyl]acetic acid} and Levodropropizine {(2S)-3-(4-phenylpiperazin-1-yl)propane-1,2-diol} were determined potentiometrically from measurements at various pHs. These determinations were in order to relate their pK _a values with their bioavailability and to provide chemical data to be used in their analysis.     

Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity of Some 3-Substituted-5,6-dimethoxy-2,3-dihydrobenzo[d]thiazol-2-one

Sixteen new compounds derived from the 2,3-dihydrobenzo[d]thiazol-2-one template with various side-chains in position-3 were synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial activity. Antibacterial and antifungal screening of the compounds prepared showed that 5,6-dimethoxy-3-(2-oxo-propyl)-2,3-dihydrobenzo[d]thiazol-2-one (3g) exhibited the highest activity.     

Synthesis and spectral studies of macrocyclic Pb(Ⅱ), Zn(Ⅱ), Cd(II)and La(Ⅲ) complexes derived from 1,4-bis(3-aminopropoxy)butane with metal nitrate and salicylaldehyde derivatives

Eight new macrocyclic complexes were synthesized by template reaction of 1,4-bis(3-aminopropoxy)butane with metal nitrate and 1,3-bis(2-forrnylphenyl)propane or 1,4-bis(2-formylphenyl)butane and their structures were proposed on the basis of elemental analysis, FTIR, UV-vis, molar conductivity measurements, 1H NMR and mass spectra. The metals to ligand molar ratios of the complexes were found to be 1:1. The complexes are 1:2 electrolytes for Pb(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes and 1:3 electrolytes for La(lIl) as shown by their molar conductivities (Am) in DMSO at 10-3 tool L-l. Due to the existence of free ions in these complexes,such complexes are electrically conductive. The configurations of La(Ⅲ) and Pb(U) were proposed to probably octahedral and Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes were proposed to probably tetrahedral.     

Synthesis,characterization and thermal study of some tetradentate Schiff base transition metal complexes

Several mononuclear Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Fe(II) complexes of tetradentate salpren-type diimine, obtained from 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 1,3-diaminopropane have been prepared and characterized by analytical, spectroscopic (FT-IR, UV–VIS) techniques, magnetic susceptibility measurements and thermogravimetric analyses (TG). The thermodynamic and thermal properties of complexes have been investigated. For further characterization Direct Insertion Probe-Mass Spectrometry (DIP-MS) was used and the fragmentation pattern and also stability of the ions were evaluated. The characterization of the end products of the decomposition was achieved by X-ray diffraction. The thermal stabilities of metal complexes of N,N′-bis(3,5-di-t-butylsalicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine ligand (L) were found as Ni(II) > Cu(II) > Co(II) > Fe(II).
