Background

The induction of sterile immunity and long lasting protection against malaria has been effectively achieved by immunization with sporozoites attenuated by gamma-irradiation or through deletion of genes. For mice immunized with radiation attenuated sporozoites (RAS) it has been shown that intrahepatic effector memory CD8+ T cells are critical for protection. Recent studies have shown that immunization with genetically attenuated parasites (GAP) in mice is also conferred by liver effector memory CD8+ T cells.

Findings

In this study we analysed effector memory cell responses after immunization of GAP that lack the P52 protein. We demonstrate that immunization with p52 -GAP sporozoites also results in a strong increase of effector memory CD8+ T cells, even 6 months after immunization, whereas no specific CD4+ effector T cells response could be detected. In addition, we show that the increase of effector memory CD8+ T cells is specific for the liver and not for the spleen or lymph nodes.

Conclusions

These results indicate that immunization of mice with P. berghei p52 -GAP results in immune responses that are comparable to those induced by RAS or GAP lacking expression of UIS3 or UIS4, with an important role implicated for intrahepatic effector memory CD8+ T cells. The knowledge of the mediators of protective immunity after immunization with different GAP is important for the further development of vaccines consisting of genetically attenuated sporozoites.  相似文献

We study the deep inelastic process ν τ + Nτ + X (with N ≡ (n + p)/2 an isoscalar nucleon), in the context of the two-Higgs doublet model Type II (2HDM(II)). We discuss the contribution to the total cross-section of diagrams, in which a charged Higgs boson is exchanged. We present results which show strong dependence of such contributions on tan β and M H ±. We show that for tan β ≈ 150 and M H ± ≈ 300 GeV, the contribution of the charged Higgs boson exchange diagrams to the cross-section of the charged current inclusive ν τ N collision can become important. We find that this contribution for an inclusive dispersion generated through the collision of an ultra-high-energy tau-neutrino with E ν ≈ 1021 eV on a target nucleon can be as large as 40% of the value of the contribution of the W ± exchange diagrams, provided M H ± ≈ 300 GeV and tan β ≈ 150. Such enhancement and the induced variation on the mean inelasticity 〈yCC could lead to sizeable effects in the acceptance of cosmic tau-neutrino detectors at experiments such as HiRes, PAO, and the CRTNT, which are anchored to the ground, and at experiments such as EUSO and OWL, which are proposed to orbit around the Earth. We also compare the contribution to σ H+tot from the different allowed initial quarks and we show that the contribution from the bottom quark dominates by far. This means that the H ± contribution practically always gives a top quark in the final state. Such a large component of the cross-section having a top quark event in the final state could have recognizable features in the EAS experiments.   相似文献

In this paper an analytical solution of the temperature of an opaque material containing two overlapping and parallel subsurface cylinders, illuminated by a modulated light beam, is presented. The method is based on the expansion of plane and cylindrical thermal waves in series of Bessel and Hankel functions. This model is addressed to the study of heat propagation in composite materials with interconnection between inclusions, as is the case of inverse opals and fiber reinforced composites. Measurements on calibrated samples using lock-in infrared thermography confirm the validity of the model.  相似文献

This work presents a forced synchronization phenomenon like the asymptotic correlated behavior between chaotic oscillators forced by an external signal. Different kinds of forced synchronization are presented and given a theoretical justification explaining why it is possible to find some of them. Numerical results are presented for different cases such as antisymmetric, lag, phase, and identical forced synchronization.  相似文献
